Matt 24:7 Then he said to them: “Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be great earthquakes, famines and pestilences in various places, and fearful events and great signs from heaven.”
Lieutenant General Herbert Carlisle, Air Force deputy chief of staff for operations, announced, “we have a great weapon that is capable of smashing through some 200 feet of concrete before exploding.” This new bunker buster is now part of the arsenal to be used by U.S. forces in future conflicts such as nations like Iran who have buried nuclear facilities.
Defense Secretary Panetta said in an interview, that planning had been going on “for a long time.” If international sanctions and diplomacy don’t stop Iran’s efforts to build nuclear weapons, the Pentagon will continue to work on our military options. Not only is Israel and the U.S. increasingly growing anxious about Iran’s enrichment program but other major powers are as well.
If Israel went ahead with a pre-emptive high risk strike against Iran, it would have an impact. But as Panetta put it “If they decided to do it there’s no question that it would have an impact, but I think it’s also clear that if the United States did it we would have a hell of a bigger impact.”
In spite of President Barack Obama’s warnings of “loose talk” and “bluster” about possible military action, he says there was still an opportunity for diplomacy.
