Tone Down Jesus

Matthew 10:22 “All men will hate you because of me, but he who stands firm to the end will be saved”

Producers of a popular reality talent show warned Colton Dixon to tone down his Christian act, and if he didn’t, he wouldn’t have a prayer of winning the “American Idol” show. According to Dixon, he answers to a “higher authority” than the voting viewers. Dixon also told that he prays before every performance and has a morning devotional time. “It reminds me why I am here, which is to share the love of God.”

Christianity seems to be taking center stage lately. Look at Broncos quarterback, Tim Tebow and Knicks point guard Jeremy Lin, who openly display their faith for all to see.

Usually in television and in the movies we see less public display of religion. The production companies do not want to alienate the “mainstream” viewers who are not interested in seeing someone preach to them on the screen.

Dixon wore a bracelet on Wednesday’s “Idol” show while performing “Broken Heart”. There is a line on that piece of jewelry from Jeremiah 29:11 which reads, “For I know the plans I have for you … plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

The “American Idol” producers feared some watchers would be turned off by Colton Dixon’s passionate enthusiasm for Jesus.

A Twitter skeptic tweeted, “he can’t Tebow his way to a win.” Dixon responded, “I don’t follow Tebow, I follow a guy named Jesus. I’m just trusting His plans. Whatever that may be.”

  1. You never intended to enter the competition in the first place, Colton. There is a reason you were steered there, and that reason is to be a witness to our Lord. The rocks do not have to cry out if you stay true and bold, Colton. Your master smiles down on you.

  2. I for one Christian am sick and tired of the devil getting to have his say with applause and accolades, while the God and Jesus loving people are told to tone it down or just shut up. Thank God for people like Colton and Tebow, and if more of us Christian cowards don’t soon start getting in the devil’s face, we can all kiss our Christian liberties goodbye.

  3. WE ALL have ONE Master – YOU Keep on keeping on Colton – and Gods Favor and HIS Greatness and Blessings to you !
