How to Know If You Are On Your Way to Heaven
There are four things necessary to know without a doubt that you are on your way to heaven:
Jesus is the Way
John 14:6 (NKJV) says “Jesus said to him, I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.”
Repentance
The Bible says, "That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation." (Romans 10:9-10)
You must truly believe with all your heart and ask God to forgive your sins and save you. 2 Corinthians 7:10 says, “For godly sorrow produces repentance leading to salvation”.
Faith
"For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved." (Romans 10:13)
In Acts 16:31, God says, ". . .Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved."
Based upon God's own word, He promises to forgive you if you will believe and receive Him into your heart as Lord and Savior. Therefore, because He reigns in your heart, you can claim God's promise of forgiveness of sins and heaven when you die.
A Changed Life
Another way to know you are saved is best expressed by another verse in the New Testament. It says in 2 Corinthians 5:17, "Therefore IF any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold all things are now become new." When God changes your life, the old things truly pass away and God gives you a new life. The old things that meant so much before will lose their appeal. The old life with all its sins truly passes away as God works in your life.
You begin to hunger and thirst for more truth and knowledge about this life in Christ. The Bible tells us in Romans 12:2 (NLT) Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.
It is a wonderful life in Christ. There is more peace, more love and more joy than anything this world has to offer. There may be hard times and the way may not always be easy, but you will have in your heart the peace that God gives to those who trust in Him.
