Flash Floods and Earthquake Kill 24 In Afghanistan

A one-two punch of flash flooding and a 5.6-magnitude earthquake has killed 24 Afghan citizens and injured hundreds.

The earthquake struck around 2 p.m. about 17 miles northwest of Jalalabad. At least nine have died in the region around the epicenter including a child. Hundreds of homes collapsed during the quake leaving thousands homeless. (more…)

Papua New Guinea Rattled By Quake

A 6.4 magnitude earthquake has rattled Papua New Guinea.

The epicenter of the quake is reported to be 18 miles north of Rabaul on the island of New Britain. The quake was measured at 10 miles deep. (more…)

Rescue Workers Finally Reaching China Quake Victims

Rescue teams have finally reached remote parts of China’s Sichuan province after the massive Saturday earthquake that has been estimated to have killed over 200.

Chinese state media say 207 are dead or missing and that the 6.6 magnitude earthquake has injured over 11,500. More than 1,300 aftershocks have rocked the region since the main quake struck around 8 a.m. local time Saturday. (more…)

With each passing hour, the casualty count continues to rise from a strong earthquake that struck the southwestern Chinese province of Sichuan. By Sunday afternoon, authorities reported 181 deaths, 24 missing and more than 11,200 injuries. (more…)

7.0 Earthquake Shakes Northern Japan

A week of earthquakes across Japan is heading into the weekend with a 7.0 magnitude quake.

Pakistan Troops Rush To Earthquake Site

Pakistan troops are rushing to a remote region of the Balochistan province to help with rescue efforts after a massive 7.8 magnitude quake.

The region is at least 10 hours from the provincial capital by car and the route is extremely dangerous. Rescue groups have been hesitant to travel because of Islamic extremists who routinely kidnap travellers on that road. (more…)

Powerful Earthquake Shakes Papua New Guinea

Just 12 hours after a massive earthquake killed dozens in Iran, a 6.8 magnitude earthquake rattled Papua New Guinea on Wednesday morning.

There was no threat of a tsunami according to scientists however the quake was very shallow. The quake centered about 11 miles east of Aitape. (more…)

Strongest Earthquake In 50 Years Shakes Iran; Pakistan; Afghanistan

A 7.8 magnitude earthquake centered in Iran reached three countries resulting in fatalities in at least two.

The quake, centered near the Iranian cities of Khash (population 180,000) and Saravan (population 250,000), struck approximately 3:14pm local time Tuesday. The earthquake was measured at a depth of almost 60 miles. The Iranian Fars news agency said on the surface the quake had the impact of a 4.0 surface quake. (more…)
