Heavy Flooding Hits Southwest England; Snow Shuts Down Other Parts of Country

England is facing a double whammy of flooding and heavy snowfall that is disrupting travel and electrical services.

BBC forecasters say that up to 16 inches of snow could fall across the country along with gale force winds. The heavy snow could continue through the entire weekend complicating rescue efforts in flooded parts of the nation. (more…)

New Zealand Hit By Worst Drought In 30 Years

The entire north island of New Zealand has been hit with a drought the government is calling the worst in 30 years.

The capital, Wellington, is reported to have only 18 days of water supply left. The south island is feared to start feeling the effects of the drought very soon. (more…)

Snowstorm Brings Power Outages Across Upper Midwest

Large parts of the upper Midwest are without power as a massive snowstorm dumps up to a foot of snow in some areas. The storm seems to not be weakening as it bears down on the east coast, putting cities like Philadelphia and Washington, D.C. in danger of outages.

Heavy, wet snow knocked out power across parts of Indiana that reported a significant increase in car accidents in places that received as little as two inches of the thick snow. Tippecanoe County, Indiana reported 25 accidents in the first 5 hours of the storm Tuesday. (more…)

Northeast U.S. Prepares For Massive Snowstorm

Government officials throughout the northeast U.S. are telling residents to “stock up” on supplies and to prepare for extended power outages as a massive winter storm moves into the region.

The National Weather Service says two separate weather systems are combining over New England and says the storm could be “historic.” The storm will start Friday and is not expected to peak until Saturday morning somewhere over Massachusetts. (more…)

Record Australian Heat Feeds Bushfires

Sydney, Australia set another temperature record on Friday reaching 115 degrees as a massive heat wave continues to feed bushfires across the continent. Some regions outside the city reported temperatures higher than Sydney.

One man died from being caught by a bushfire fed by dried vegetation due to the drought and heat wave. State police found the man’s body inside his burned out vehicle. They speculate he was trying to flee the flames. (more…)
