Egyptian news agencies reported the decision to hold a closed ceremony for Christians who continue to pay their last respects to the Coptic Pope Shenouda in Abbasiya on Monday morning, despite a Church announcement that the cathedral gates would close following the deaths and injuries caused by a stampede Sunday by the huge crowds attempting to enter the cathedral, which resulted in three deaths and 137 injuries.
And now, the rest of the story . . . A Muslim mob was attacking the Cairo cathedral and gunfire was exchanged as an armed gang descended on the funeral of five Christians killed in recent sectarian clashes. With gunfire at their back, they were running for cover. (more…)
