The Christmas Story (Part 1)

Hello Everyone!

Each year about this time, I like to remind families how important it is to tell the Christmas story to our little ones.  Even the older ones love to hear the true Christmas story about the birth of Jesus.  The Christmas story is paraphrased below from the New Testament Books of Matthew and Luke in the Bible.  It will be told here in 4 parts.  Be sure you print them and keep them to read to the children at your family gathering this Christmas!

Marriage (Pt. 1)

In my book, “More Than I Could Ever Ask”, I tell all the details about my first husband whom I chose for all the wrong reasons, none of which had anything to do with God.  When I met him, I was very young and naive and my ability to make good decisions was not yet mature.  Add to that the influence of drugs and you have a recipe for disaster and that is what happened.  The choices I made as a young woman led to 10 years of hell and heartache.

Remember the old Frank Sinatra song “I Did It My Way”?  It sounded really great to the generation that was being raised to indulge in the world and all of its pleasure.  We heard things like “go for the gusto” and “you only live once” and we bought it.  We bought the lie that we had a right to sinful lusts and worldly living that the Bible says brings pleasure for a season, but eventually brings death.  We bought the world’s philosophy of “self fulfillment”. A Little Boy’s Voice (Pt. 2)

The broadcast that day by Focus on the Family was called “Tilly.” The skillful blend of voices and music and sound effects captivated me, and I was quickly lost in the story.

I identified with the character named Kathy, a depressed woman who has a dream populated with lots of children. She discovers something different about these children: they have no names and no parents, and they don’t know where they came from. The ethereal background music clued the listener that these children were actually in heaven. I gripped the steering wheel tightly as I tried to keep my emotions in check. Continue reading

Revival, Repentance, Salvation

Our country desperately needs revival. Even the Church needs to be revived again because large parts have become salt-less and lost its ‘flavor’ as the Bible says in Matthew 5:13:

“You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot.”

Every aspect of our society seems bent on the destruction of all that the Bible stands for – and all that God commands. We have a great opportunity in this age to be the salt of the earth by being bold and speaking the truth in love. That’s what we are trying to do daily on our show. Continue reading

My Daily Walk (Pt. 3)

I will humble myself and walk daily in humility before my God.

2 Chronicles 32:24-26 NCV

At that time Hezekiah became so sick he almost died. When he prayed to the LORD, the LORD spoke to him and gave him a sign. But Hezekiah did not thank God for his kindness, because he was so proud. So the LORD was angry with him and the people of Judah and Jerusalem. But later Hezekiah and the people of Jerusalem were sorry and stopped being proud, so the LORD did not punish them while Hezekiah was alive.

2 Samuel 15:30 NCV (David always humbled himself before God!)

David went up the Mount of Olives, crying as he went. He covered his head and went barefoot. All the people with David covered their heads also and cried as they went.

Deception Leads to Depression

You know, it’s fairly easy to follow the “deception leads to depression” truth. There are many false teachings that have lead people astray and when they find out that what they have been taught just DOES NOT WORK, they are devastated.

Take, for example, the false prosperity teachings. Jim calls them “love of money” teachings. Most of these are based on a formula of sowing and reaping, e.g. sowing money equals reaping money. But this teaching has been taken so out of context and when people eventually find out that their giving should not be tied to monetary gain, they are often angry at first, and then depressed. Why? Because they have been schooled in the teaching that if they give money, they will reap money…. And not just what they have sowed, but a 30, 60 or 100 fold return! Do you think there’s a little greed in there!? Continue reading

Staying in Perfect Peace as the World Goes Wild

I’m pretty sure that most people are feeling the pressure of a world gone wild, especially those who are a little older and can remember a safer, more stable world of a few decades ago. I know that what I’m seeing happen around the world in social issues, weather related events, global unrest and violence and the general hostile climate of our world is the stuff that makes people crazy and causes some to lose hope.

And, if our hope was only in this world, we may as well lose it. Continue reading

My Daily Walk (Pt. 2)

I will humble myself and walk daily in humility before my God

Isaiah 57:15

And this is the reason: God lives forever and is holy. He is high and lifted up. He says, “I live in a high and holy place, but I also live with people who are sad and humble. I give new life to those who are humble and to those whose hearts are broken.

Matthew 18:2-4

Jesus called a little child to him and stood the child before his followers. Then he said, “I tell you the truth, you must change and become like little children. Otherwise, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. The greatest person in the kingdom of heaven is the one who makes himself humble like this child. Continue reading

Satisfied

When Jason Crabb was with us recently, he sang a song that is so “me” that it was like someone reached right down in my soul and pulled out the very words! That’s the way it is with spiritual songs and songwriters and singers who are led of the Lord. A spiritual song will always speak to the deepest part of you. It’s like the scripture, “as deep calls to deep” (Psalm 42:7). Continue reading

My Daily Walk (Pt. 1)

When I left prison, the Lord gave me 15 things that I wrote down that I determined in my heart that I would do from then on.  I’m going to share these with you and show you what the Word says about each one.  You know, it’s time now to return to the Bible and focus on each and every word that comes from it.  As we can see, all around us people everywhere are losing the ability to distinguish right from wrong and  truth from error.  We will find the answers to all that we seek ONLY in the Word of God.
