Iran’s Nuclear Program Designed to ‘finish off’ Israel, Hezbollah Says on TV

Walid Sakariya tells al-Manar Lebanese Television, the entire equation in the Middle East will change when Iran gets their nuclear weapons. He says that the Iranian weapons are intended to annihilate Israel. Hezbollah MP Walid Sakariya, a retired general, recorded a segment translated by MEMRI (the Middle East Media Research Institute). He told the interviewer that “should Iran acquire a nuclear weapon, it would serve Syrian as well as Iranian interests, namely the eradication of the Jewish state.” He insinuated that the old Syrian Empire which of course included Syria, would be reenergized as a world power again.
Sakariya said, “This nuclear weapon is intended to create a balance of terror with Israel, to finish off the Zionist enterprise, and to end all Israeli aggression against the Arab nation.”
Iranian officials continue to typically assert that their controversial nuclear program is meant solely for peaceful purposes.
Israel is unwilling to rely on Washington protecting Israel from a nuclear Iran, believing that the US would be too slow to react. In a recent speech, Netanyahu said only Israel could defend itself.
Barak reportedly anticipates that Iran would hit back at an Israeli attack by using Hezbollah in south Lebanon, but the Israeli defense minister is confident that Israel
