Feeding Sheep (Pt. 1)

Shirley Nickle

Our nation prospered when our leaders were men of God and our pastors preached the infallible Word of God.

In just the years I have been saved I have seen a drastic change in the teaching of God’s Word. There is no value placed on God’s Word and there is no reverential fear of God. His Holy Word is compromised and some churches are building on sinking sand.

They try all their own ideas of what they think will work. Some churches bring in entertainment to attract crowds. Anything we put before God is an idol.

Instead of taking time with God to get answers and direction from Him and allowing Him to cause His ways to be successful in our lives and the church, the church often brings the world into the church. A little leaven spoils the whole loaf.

When the church does not live according to the Word of God, the foundation of our families and our nation is eroded. Righteousness is what God longs for! He desires to have all of your heart. We need to really look at our values and decide what really is important.

When you truly love someone you want to spend time with them, you want to know what they like and what they don’t like. You want to know how they think. You want to do things for them and you want to protect them. You want the best for someone you honor and respect. You desire to be faithful to them and you wouldn’t do anything that would harm them.

My prayer is that your heart burns and thirsts for God.

Matthew 5:6 KJV “Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.”

John 7:37 KJV “In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink.

I pray that a real desire stays in your heart to walk closely with God daily. I pray that you will have a true abiding relationship with the Lord and not return to your old ways. I believe that when you are truly saved the old man is dead. You have been raised up with Christ Jesus and you are a new creature.

II Corinthians 5:17 KJV “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.”

Your desires change and you long for God’s Kingdom to come on the earth daily as it is in Heaven. As a Christian you begin to listen to God for His help and instruction to help build His church.

God says that if He is lifted up He will draw all men unto Himself. (John 12:32) It is the anointing that draws men and keeps the people coming back. That same anointing breaks the yoke of sin. Without God all that we put our hand to will eventually fail.

Anything we put before God is an idol and God will sooner or later put His hand to it. We are to obey God regardless. I truly cannot believe some of the things I have witnessed as a Christian — especially coming from churches who call themselves Christians.

Recently I drove into Springfield and saw a church billboard. It was advertising a movie that it was going to show and the sign read: Come and go on a journey of faith with us at 7:00 p.m. And what was the movie? Harry Potter!

The enemy has not changed!

There is something wrong when you profess to be a Christian and it doesn’t bother you to be around things of this world that are evil. It is time for the church to take her rightful place. Therefore, Christians should not be participating in things that are totally against God – the One who gives you your daily breath.

The steps of the righteous are ordered of the Lord. So, every place that the sole of our foot treads is ours! We have been given all power and authority over the evil one. We are seated in heavenly places with Christ Jesus. God’s Word does not return void. Satan was stripped of any power and is rendered useless.

We overcome by the blood of the Lamb and the Word of our testimony. (Revelation 12:11) Open up your mouth and start speaking the Word of God over yourself, over life’s matters and over our nation. Then, watch how the God of Israel will cause His Word to come to past. He loves us so much. Can’t you hear Him calling you? There is no one who can love like Him. He’s all-knowing. He is the One we first of all should run to. He is my everything. How about you?

As this month’s devotion came up in my spirit, I was strengthened in my belief that we can turn the church and our families and our nation around. When God’s people, who are called by His name, humble themselves, pray and turn from their wicked ways, then God will hear from Heaven and will heal our land. (II Chronicles 7:14 paraphrased)
