Sitting in God’s Presence to Hear God

Terry Lynn Stubblefield

“One thing I have desired of the LORD, That will I seek: That I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the LORD, and to inquire in His temple.” ~Psalm 27:4 NKJV

This verse from Psalm 27 reads like this from the Hebrew (Art Scrolls Tehellim). This is a literal Hebraic translation from the book of Psalms. (Hashem is the word for Lord).

“One thing I asked of HASHEM, that shall I see: that I dwell (literally: sit) in the House of HASHEM all the days of my life. To behold the delight of HASHEM and to meditate (literally: search).”

Just like David sought the presence of the Lord for direction, so should we. Many long to hear God’s voice and get His guidance for their life but don’t know how to accomplish this. God’s Word has the answer!

Jesus is our perfect example. Jesus didn’t go from one place of ministry to another place of ministry. HE went to one place of prayer to another place of prayer. Out of that place of prayer came ministry. Jesus found out the will of God. For Jesus to accomplish what Father God wanted Him to do, Jesus had to go apart and pray. Jesus had to “sit” before the Lord and receive direction.

Papa Kenneth Hagin used to say, “We have walked and we have run, but we need to “sit”. We need to sit with Him and “hear” what HE wants us to do, instead of running around and doing something that God didn’t order.”

We cannot be so busy “serving” God that we don’t have time for Him. Avoid becoming so extremely stressed and overworked that you don’t even consider adjusting your schedule. We all need to set aside time to seek and inquire of the Lord. He has the answers!

Luke 10:38-42 Amplified “…Jesus entered a certain village, and a woman named Martha received and welcomed Him into her house. And she had a sister named Mary, who SEATED herself at the Lord’s feet and was LISTENING to His teaching. But Martha (OVERLY OCCUPIED AND TOO BUSY) WAS DISTRACTED WITH MUCH SERVING; and she came up to Him and said, Lord, is it nothing to You that my sister has left me to serve alone? Tell her then to help me (lend a hand and do her part along with me)! But the Lord replied to her by saying, Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled about many things; There is need of only one or but a few things. Mary has chosen the good portion (THAT WHICH IS TO HER ADVANTAGE), which shall not be taken away from her.”

We need to “sit” quietly before the Lord, not asking for anything. Just seek His face and listen. We all need to do this individually as well as a body corporately. The only way to establish God’s will is to “sit” before Him, to enquire; hear; and obey the Lord.

Ephesians 5:14-17 Amplified tells us…“Therefore He says, Awake, O sleeper, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall shine (make day dawn) upon you and give you light. Look carefully then how you walk! Live purposefully and worthily and accurately, not as the unwise and witless, but as wise (sensible, intelligent people), Making the very most of the time (buying up each opportunity), because the days are evil. Therefore do not be vague and thoughtless and foolish, but understanding and firmly grasping what the will of the Lord is.”

Jeremiah 29:13—“And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.” KJV

The Lord has much to share with each of us so let’s “SIT”!
