In Cairo at Tahir Square, President-elect Mohamed Morsi of the Muslim Brotherhood proclaimed to hundreds of thousands of supporters in his inaugural speech that he will gain the release of Sheik Omar Abdel Rahman, the blind Islamic cleric behind the 1993 bombing of the World Trade Center. Rahman is incarcerated at a federal prison in North Carolina after being convicted of masterminding the bombing that killed six and unsuccessfully plotting to blow up other landmarks, including the United Nations.
Outrage is growing in the United States. We can only hope this government remembers giving 1.3 Billion Dollars in military aid to the Muslim Brotherhood this year. The Obama administration announced back in March of 2012 that national security interests favored the release of $1.3 billion in military assistance to Egypt. Now top American leaders are seething over President Morsi’s remarks.
Rep. Peter King, (R) from N.Y. said, “The fact that Morsi said in his first official speech that he would gain the release of Sheik Rahman says to me that this is from his heart. It’s disgusting for a head of government to state in his inaugural speech that a man who attempted to commit mass murder should be freed, and the Muslim Brotherhood has been trying to convince us that they have changed. We need to be more on guard than ever.”
“Sen. Chuck Schumer, (D) from N.Y. called Morsi’s speech an insult to the memories of the victims of the World Trade Center Bombing. “Rest assured, Rahman will stay right where he belongs, in jail for the rest of his life.”
The new Egyptian president is Israel’s worst nightmare. Columnist Ben Caspit wrote last week that Israel has come to face the moment in history feared by generations of Israeli intelligence and security chiefs. This particular nightmare started when Egypt fell into the hands of the radicle Islamic Muslim Brotherhood. “All this transpires in the largest Arab country, Israel’s major strategic peace partner, the regional anchor,” he said. “Now, instead of a regional power that hates the Hamas terrorist group, a sister state to Hamas sits on our southern border. The Muslim Brotherhood views Hamas in Gaza as colleagues.”
We will see if Morsi attempts to take his people over the Nile River and through the woods into a very dark place. Hopefully the world will see through his disguise as a liberal politician and not offer the big bad wolf a basket with any more cookies. The Brotherhood has such big teeth and he is thinking “The better to eat you with!” What is happening in Egypt right now is worth watching. Christians, beware of the big bad wolf. Be careful what you do with your cookies.
