Unrest Weakens Egypt

The popularity of the Muslim Brotherhood on the streets is eroding,” says Hamada Nassar, a spokesman for the political arm of the onetime jihadist Gamaa Islamiya group in Egypt.

Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi has been significantly weakened by a week of violent protests across much of his country and his popularity is eroding. The powerful military has been criticizing him and some of his Islamist backers are beginning to distance themselves from him. (más…)

Greek Protesters Storm Government Offices

Protesters stormed government offices in Athens breaking doors and overturning chairs as they tried to get to Employment Minister, Yiannis Vroutsis. The minister, who was in the office at the time of the assault, escaped the conflict unharmed.

Police made 33 arrests and used batons to disperse the crowd that managed to surge into the waiting rooms outside the main offices. (más…)

Egypt Could Collapse Again

Egypt’s army chief said that the state of Egypt could collapse again if the political crisis does not subside. The people ignored President Morsi’s demand of a night curfew and a declared state of emergency. Egyptian troops were deployed and they stood by watching the riots in Port Said and Suez.

Riots spread to other cities as people took to the streets after the 9 p.m. curfew to display their contempt for the newly elected Muslim Brotherhood president. They were battling police, cutting off roads and railway lines, and blockading government offices and police stations as part of the growing revolt, showing their contempt for the president’s policies in outright rebellion. Bahrein gas lacrimógeno militarización

The US-based rights group Physicians for Human Rights is claiming the government of Bahrain is weaponizing tear gas in an attempt to quell protests in the nation.

Activists in Bahrain say 30 people have been killed as a result of the specialized tear gas. Many more have been injured, maimed or blinded by toxic chemicals inside the canisters. (más…)

España anuncia recortes presupuestarios durante protestas contra el Gobierno

Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy announced the country’s sales tax would rise from 18% a 21% and that local governments would have their budgets significantly cut in an attempt to appease Eurozone regulators after the country requested a financial bailout.
