Cyber-terror Apocalypse on the Horizon?

There is no doubt that Iran is working on obtaining a nuclear weapon. Foreign Minister Liberman reported to the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee in Jerusalem. “We know that they are attempting to enrich uranium over 20%. This is a nuclear military plan. It is obvious to all that Iran is trying to hide proof of its nuclear program, but we can see proof in satellite photos.”

Iran is willing to accept the consequences of international sanctions and will not stop until they are a nuclear nation.

Cependant, Eugene Kaspersky warns of another plague that will be even worse and bring about the “End of the world as we know it.” He sees a cyber-terror apocalypse on the horizon, a weapon that could bring world governments to their knees. Kaspersky, whose lab discovered the “Flame” virus that attacked computers in Iran and elsewhere in the Middle East, believes that only a global effort of cooperation can stop a new era of “cyber terrorism” in a world where everything runs on computers including national infrastructures.

We may very well have become desensitized in 2012 to ¬doomsday scenarios. But just maybe a few alarms should be going off in our heads. What do we do when all the computers are shut down? Do we return to the Stone Age? He who controls the computers, controls the world (isn’t that the saying?)

Kaspersky told reporters at a Tel Aviv University cyber security conference in Israel, “It’s not cyber war, it’s cyber terrorism, and I’m afraid the game is just beginning. Très bientôt, many countries around the world will know it beyond a shadow of a doubt. I’m afraid it will be the end of the world as we know it!"Et, Eugene Kaspersky added fearfully, “I’m scared, believe me.”

This shocking warning was given shortly after researchers at Kaspersky Lab discovered FLAME, the most complex cyber threat ever. Although this cyber espionage infected systems across the Middle East, Iran’s uranium enrichment facility at Natanz seems to have been its primary target. Israël, China and Russia are capable of creating such a virus. The cost of developing software of this nature would be around $100 million de dollars. “Even those countries that do not yet have the necessary expertise (to create a virus like Flame) can employ engineers or kidnap them, or turn to hackers for help.”

Here is the crux of the matter; FLAME is like a Pandora’s Box. Once opened, it cannot be contained or controlled. When this cyber terror weapon has been released, it recognizes no borders or boundaries. It is a replicating threat that can jump with bluetooth technology from one device to another and is capable of taking down infrastructure around the world.
