Kabul, Afghanistan – U.S. President Barack Obama takes time off from his busy political campaign trail in the States, to visit our troops in the Afghanistan military campaign. The objective was to sign an agreement with Afghan President Hamid Karzai, governing the U.S. presence after combat troops withdraw in 2014. United States troops will continue the training of Afghan forces and conduct target operations against al-Qaeda. We also promised to seek money from Congress every year to support Afghanistan.
Obama announced, “The tide has turned.” He also stated, “We broke the Taliban’s momentum. We’ve built strong Afghan security forces. We devastated al-Qaeda’s leadership, taking out over 20 of their top 30 leaders.”
Violence erupted about 90 minutes after Obama’s departure. It was a stark reminder of the difficult tasks ahead for Afghan troops.
An Afghan Interior Ministry spokesman reported that the attack began with a suicide car bomb that was set off near the gate of a privately guarded compound. The police chief said four people died in a car passing by; a pedestrian and a security guard were also killed. Out of the seven deaths reported, one was unidentified. Seventeen others were wounded, mostly Afghan children on their way to school.
An eye-witness reported, “A vehicle stopped here and six people wearing burqas got out and entered the alley carrying black bags in their hands. When they entered the alley, there was an explosion.” Afghan soldiers rushed to the scene. Explosions and gunfire continued for hours.
Why anyone would want to claim responsibility for the murder of innocent people, I don’t know. None the less, Taliban spokesman Zabiullah Mujahid claimed responsibility for the attack.
“This was a message to Obama that those are not real Afghans that are signing documents about this country,” Mujahid said. “The real Afghan nation is those people that are not letting foreign invaders stay in this country or disrespect the dignity of our country.”
According to CNS News website’s comprehensive database on the Afghan 10 year conflict, לפחות 1,275 casualties of the 1,844 מתגורר בארה"ב. troops killed in the Afghanistan war have been killed since Jan. 20, 2009, during the present administration.
First Lady Michelle Obama invoked praise for her husband, asserting Tuesday that the nation was “blessed” to have him. באופן אירוני, Michelle is giving literal meaning to the name Barack, which is derived from African and Arabic words meaning “blessing.” Michelle’s remark at an Albuquerque, New Mexico fundraiser comes just two weeks after she alleged that “this President has brought us out of the dark and into the light.”
It seems to me that there is still a great deal of darkness, מוות, violence and corruption everywhere we look and the state of affairs in Afghanistan is a prime example.
Can we really look at the facts that presented themselves hours after Obama left Afghanistan in the form of al-Qaeda terrorism within the country and believe the mainstream media or others when they tell us it is better now?
Election years certainly do bring out the impetus in our politicians to take credit for wrapping things up and claiming victory for fixing things that remain broken.
כמו ג'ים בקר אומר, “The good news is the bad news is the Good News that Jesus is coming back soon.”
Gen. 6:11-12 “The earth also was corrupt before God, and the earth was filled with violence. So God looked upon the earth, and indeed it was corrupt; for all flesh had corrupted their way on the earth.”
“And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not troubled; לכל הדברים האלה חייבים לבוא לעבור, but the end is not yet.” Matthew 24:6
