Numero 2 Morto leader di Al Qaeda in Yemen

Saeed al-Shihri was wounded in a missile attack by a U.S. drone in southern Yemen on October 28. He had fallen into a coma since then. The information was not exactly clear when he actually died. Al-Shihri was a Saudi national who fought in Afghanistan and spent six years in the U.S. military prison at Guantanamo Bay.

Al-Shihri’s death is considered a major blow to Al Qaeda’s Yemen branch. (più…)

U.S. Drone War in Yemen

According to Yemen officials, a U.S. drone targeted a vehicle near Khawlan, circa 20 miles from the capital city of Sanaa. The drone attacked and killed seven al Qaeda fighters yesterday.

Yemen is considered a stronghold of al-Qaeda because of the weakness in their central government. There have been several U.S. drone strikes on the Arabian Peninsula, against militants in this area in as many days. (più…)

The London Times reports Saudi Arabia is providing fighter jets to help the United States with their drone strikes against Al-Qaeda targets in Yemen.

Al-Qaeda Assaults Yemeni Military Base

Almeno 14 soldiers were killed when al-Qaeda terrorists launched an assault on a military base in southern Yemen. The dawn attack began with a terrorist car bombing followed by fierce fighting between troops and terrorists.

The attack is possibly in response to a US drone attack on Thursday that killed seven terrorists. Security officials reported the terrorists had been meeting at a farm outside of the city of Jaar. (più…)

US Embassy Worker Dead in Yemenal Qaeda Alive

There is a rise in assassinations in the Arab state of Yemen. Washington continues to battle al Qaeda militants. Masked attackers on a motorcycle opened fire and killed Qassem Aqlan, the head of security for the US Embassy, on his way to work in the center of Yemen’s capital city.

Our source reported, “This (assassination) operation has the fingerprints of al Qaeda which carried out similar operations before.” Militant groups are becoming stronger in the Arab Peninsula. The Yemen-based al Qaeda organization has become more assertive since the uprising that ousted President Ali Abdullah Saleh in February. (più…)

One day after Al-Qaeda’s #2 leader in Yemen was killed in a drone strike, the terrorist group struck back in an attempted assassination of Yemen’s defense minister.

The attack near government offices in Sanaa killed 11 compresi 7 of Major General Muhammad Nasir Ahmad’s personal bodyguards. A car bomb detonated as the minister’s motorcade passed the booby-trapped vehicle. (più…)

Al-Qaeda Leader Killed In Yemen

The second in command of Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula has been killed in an operation lead by Yemeni government forces.

Said al-Shihri, a Saudi Arabian national released by the US from Guantanamo Bay in 2007, was reportedly killed by a strike from a US drone along with six other terrorists. The Yemeni government has been fighting Al-Qaeda Islamist militants in the southern part of the country for the past few months. (più…)

An attack on the Yemeni Intelligence Headquarters in Aden has killed 14 people and injured dozens.

Government officials said the attack was “well planned” and included rocket propelled grenades and automatic weapons. The assault included a simultaneous attack on two sides of the building. (più…)
