Maine Mother Fighting Government’s Attempts To Let Her Baby Die

Luke 17:28-30 “Likewise as it was also in the days of Lot: They ate, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they built” but on the day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven and destroyed them all. Even so will it be in the day when the Son of Man is revealed.

A Maine mother is fighting the state to stop them from letting her baby die.

Six-month-old Aleah Peaslee was shaken so badly by her father Kevin that she initially went into a coma from a severe brain injury.  While in the coma, doctors said the baby had little chance of survival and the family agreed to a do not resuscitate order.

The baby was taken off a ventilator and placed in her mother’s arms with everyone expecting her to pass into glory.

Instead, the baby kept breathing and improving in the arms of her 18-year-old mother, Virginia.  Days later, the baby came out of the coma.  Virginia asked for the DNR to be lifted for her child and the hospital refused saying that the baby still had brain damage.  Then the government stepped in.

The Maine Department of Health and Human Services kept going to court until they found a judge that would give them the power to keep the DNR in place.  They claimed “neither parent can be counted on to be physically or emotionally available to make the necessary informed decision when needed.”

The Alliance Defending Freedom is standing up with the mother.

“The state is effectively arguing that this mom isn’t fit to make medical decisions for her child simply because she wants the child to live,” ADF Senior Counsel Steven Aden said.  “No one has declared this mother an unfit parent, yet the government wants to take her place.  The Maine Supreme Judicial Court should reaffirm Mainers’ interest in life, parental rights, and the integrity of the medical profession by reversing the lower court and restoring this mom’s full rights to make medical decisions on her daughter’s behalf.”

Maine’s Governor Paul LePage has said he will defend the life of the baby even if he has to defy the state’s Supreme Court.

  1. I understand your perspective in regards to the baby – you do not want the baby to suffer or the parents or caregiver to feel burdened by the care. One thing is missed in your concern. The baby did not die but came out of the coma and is reported to be doing better. God can take what was done through error or intention and cause a great blessing to occur. I do not say this in a light manner in that my body too is deteriorating through a progressive disease. No one knows what God’s intention is in regards to this dear baby but I don’t think a government organization has any right to interfere regarding whether a child should exist or not unless the mother is shown to be an abusive caregiver.

  2. I lost my beautiful 46 year old highly intelligent daughter to a progressive, no longer treatable, case of MS. We signed a DNR form. This was 6 months ago. What would this baby’s life be in the condition which was forced on her. She will grow and be completely dependent on people dressing her, changing her, feeding her. She will be better off in the arms of God than living this way. My daughter suffered with her condition immensely but the illness came on naturally. This poor baby was murdered by a sick person. Let her go to God where she will never have to suffer again.

    • Lord God Almighty, it’s not us, it’s you! If you still heal and make alive again, let the mother receive her baby whole and well in Jesus’ name! I agree with the mother who is asking for her baby’s life. O God, we know that you truly do all things well. We choose life, that we and our seed may live in Jesus’ name. Deuteronomy 30:19 Hallelujah!
