Millions Without Power In India

Over 600 million people are without power in India after three power grids completely collapsed a day after one of the three grids had individually failed.

The power failure is having wide-ranging impact beyond residents as business are closed and the transportation system has been paralyzed. Hundreds of trains are at a standstill. Hospitals are relying on backup generators.

Power Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde is appealing to the nation’s states to stop trying to use more than their quota of power and stated they would start penalizing any state that overdraw from the nation’s antiquated power grid.

The country is currently in their season where they receive little rain and have high humidity that normally causes multiple heat related illnesses. The power failures are putting many more people at risk for heat stroke and respiratory problems.

Hundreds of miners were trapped underground across eastern India because the elevators that bring them to the surface failed without power. A spokesman for the coal mining company said the recovery process is slow because they “cannot be pulled out together.” They hoped to have them all “home for dinner.”

Electrical demand in India has significantly increased with the boom in their economy but their infrastructure has not been upgraded to meet the growing demand.

  1. This is just a prelude to what we will experience, to what the wars coming will cause… Hotter temperatures, more ac’s on, demand high for electricity… Anti-christians up lifting satanic rights and anti-bibical beliefs… Martires for islam… Nations being taken over taken to bring glory to jesus…? not so… Evil is flooding the earth… Power shortages are in the church as well as the grids… God lives –in his people—the devil lives in the rest…
