The National Weather Service (NWS) has documented four feet of hail falling in Texas north of Amarillo.
NWS says a severe and slow moving thunderstorm produced heavy rain and a “tremendous amount of hail”. The hail mixed with the rain to cause flash flooding and banks of hail up to four feet high. U.S. Autostrada 287 in Potter County, Texas was shut down for over 12 hours due to the flooding and banks of hail.
NWS along with the Amarillo Office of Emergency Management also reported on a normally dry creek that ran 15 feet high because of the rainfall. Estimates of the deluge show 5 a 6 inches of rain falling from this one storm cell
No one was injured from the storm which contained hail as big as golf balls.
