Rev 6:3-4 NCV When the Lamb opened the second seal, I heard the second living creature say, "Come!" Then another horse came out, a red one. Its rider was given power to take away peace (prosperity, rest) from the earth and to make people kill each other (butcher, slaughter, to maim violently, in streets), and he was given a big sword (assassins sword, terrorist, loud, mighty, sore afraid).
“Hardly a day goes by when our senses are not bludgeoned by some new outbreak of terrorism in the Middle East. Despite our best efforts at making and keeping the peace, political, economic, and religious tensions often lead to unrest, violence, and riots.”
-Jim Bakker in “Prosperity and the Coming Apocalypse”
The death toll in Syria continues to climb to more than 13,500 people during the 15 month civil uprising according to the U.K. based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights. Civilian activists report that pro-government militants and security forces killed another 78 people including women and children within the Mazraat-al-Qubeir District, located in in the central province of Hama. Some were stabbed to death by armed militiamen who carried out the calculated attack after regular troops first shelled the area. At least 12 bodies were also burned.
U.N. monitors were fired upon while trying to reach the location of the latest massacre by forces loyal to President Bashar Assad.
U.N. Secretary General Ban Ki-moon told the General Assembly meeting on the Syrian crisis, “Today’s news reports of another massacre are shocking and sickening.” Ki-moon also explained to the 193-nation assembly, “A village was surrounded by Syrian forces. The bodies of innocent civilians were lying where they were; shot, some burned or slashed with knives. We condemn this unspeakable barbarity and renew our determination to bring those responsible to account.” He continued to tell the assembly that U.N. monitors were initially denied access to the site. “They are working now to get to the scene. I just learned a few minutes ago that while trying to do so the UN monitors were shot at with small arms.” International envoy Kofi Annan also condemned the most recent massacre and sadly acknowledged his peace plan was not working.
Following the latest news from Syria about the slaughter of civilians in the province of Hama, Italian foreign minister Guilo Terzi warned that Bashar al-Assad’s policies in Damascus would create the deliberate and systematic destruction of the Syrian people.
Italy among other nations expelled the Syrian ambassadors last month in a coordinated action by Western powers to protest the needless massacre of women and children in the town of Houla. Mr. Terzi said the Syrian dictatorship “is fighting for its survival in an ever more direct and brutal escalation, with terror against the civilian population.” His strong comments came as Assad was appointing Raid Hijab as new prime minister, to supposedly form a new government still under the old regime to pacify the public, as armed freedom fighters continued to go on the offensive in and around Damascus.
French foreign ministry spokesman, Bernard Valero said the appointment was a “masquerade. Assad remains stubbornly deaf to the demands of his people.”
