God’s Not Dead

Sharon Couchman

Have you heard of or seen the movie “God’s Not Dead”?  The media and Hollywood were surprised at how well the movie did.  It was produced on a very low budget, but when it hit the theaters it grossed over $90 million dollars!

People are hungry for good, clean, wholesome movies.  The title “God’s Not Dead” also grabbed the attention of scoffers who say there is no God.  The film created a stir of conversation among non-believers.  Let’s pray that more people who doubt God’s existence will reach out, watch the film out of curiosity, and be drawn to the Lord.

To a true follower of Christ it seems ridiculous that anyone would say that God is dead or doesn’t even exist.  Scripture describes those who say there is no God.  It goes like this:

Psalm 14:1 KJV – “The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God…”

There will always be those who question God’s existence.  The enemy even tries to cause Christians to doubt God and His goodness.  Those fiery darts want us to question if God cares, does He really hear our prayers, etc.  These mental struggles and discouraging thoughts can be offset with Biblical truths.  Jesus gave us the best example when tempted by satan – Jesus spoke the Word!

Our God is alive and well!  Years ago we were hearing the expression that “Satan is alive and well on planet earth.”  Well, let’s never forget that God is over all and His Spirit is moving in the earth through His people.  There is a mighty wind of God’s Spirit blowing and a great harvest of souls yet to be won before the Lord’s return.  God deserves our attention more than the enemy.  God loves you and me so dearly and we have much to be thankful for.

What a difference Christianity is compared to other religions.   True Christianity is all about a relationship with our Savior.  It is not a dead, routine, trying-to-measure up ritual, but rather, about a Mighty, All-Knowing and All Powerful Loving Creator who wants to fellowship with His people.

We have direct access to our Heavenly Father because of Jesus!  What an amazing truth that the Creator of the universe desires to communicate with us!

Isaiah 1:18 – “Come now, and let us reason together, saith the Lord…”

We recently celebrated Passover and Easter.  For the Christian this season is all about a resurrected living Savior.  Jesus is alive and at the right hand of the Father.  His Spirit is living in our hearts.

And God is not mute as some theologians teach – He is still speaking to His people.  God desires a two-way conversation with us.  You can share your most intimate heartfelt desires, thoughts and feelings with Him.  His love for you never changes.

John 10:27 – “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:”

Psalm 55:17 – “Evening, and morning, and at noon, will I pray, and cry aloud: and he shall hear my voice.”

Psalm 85:8—“I will hear what God the Lord will speak: for he will speak peace unto his people, and to his saints:…”

Revelation 3:20 KJV – “Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.”

Jesus is the source of life, the source of peace, the source of everything we need and the purpose for our existence.  God hears our prayers and He answers our prayers.

The same Spirit that raised Christ from the dead lives in you!

Romans 8:11 KJV – “But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.”

You are a container of God’s Spirit.  Wherever you go you carry the Spirit of God into that atmosphere and situation because of who you are in Christ and who He is in you!  WOW – double WOW!

As you meditate on this reality – Christ in you – the hope of Glory, remember to thank and praise our Lord for being such a personal God.  He is concerned about everything that concerns you.  God has the solution to any problem that you face.

Psalm 56:11 KJV – “In God have I put my trust: I will not be afraid what man can do unto me.”

You can trust Him with your life and your future. Why?  Because God loves you and has a wonderful future for you while living on this Earth and for all Eternity.

Jeremiah 29:11 NIV – “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. “

John 11:25-26 KJV – “Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this?

If you have received Jesus as your Savior you will live forever in Eternity with the Eternal One.  What a blessing to know we serve a forever God who is faithful to His promises.  The Bible is full of God’s promises and all His promises are “Yes” and “Amen.”

Truth is — if God is dead then he was never really God.  There are many people who are worshiping idols, deceased persons, or an inanimate object.

But that is not our God.
