The Holy Spirit – A Gift

Clete Snellenberger

Sometime ago I was pondering and being thankful for God’s love, His mercy, and His watchful care for His children.  I was also reminded of, and began to thank God for, the great sacrifice that Jesus paid.  His sacrifice bridges the gap between Father God and ourselves and enables us to enter into the throne room through the precious blood of Jesus.

Jesus truly is the Way, the Truth and the Life!  He fulfilled His purpose on earth and as Acts 10:38 says: “How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil, for God was with Him.”

As I thought on the fact that Jesus, while on earth, could only be in one place at a time, so He said in John 14, “I must go away, but I will not leave you without comfort.  I will send you another Comforter, which is the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name!”

I love how the Amplified Bible says it in John 14:26 – “But the Comforter, (Counselor, Helper, Intercessor, Advocate, Strengthener, Standby), the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My Name, (in my place, to represent me and act on my behalf).  He will teach you all things.  And, He will cause you to recall (will remind you of and bring to your remembrance) everything I have told you.”

This scripture has meant so much to me because, after leaving the business world and being in full time ministry, my wife and I had the privilege of attending school for advanced Bible training.  One day while sitting in the chapel service after three months of intensive Bible training I questioned God.  I was frustrated from learning so much and complained to God:  “How can I obtain all this knowledge?”

Then the Holy Spirit spoke to me saying, “Put all you can into your spirit man and at the time of need, it will be there for revelation recall when you need it.”  I knew the input of His Word was called knowledge, but wisdom with understanding will cause the Word of God to be effective at the time of need.  His Word would not return void but it would prosper in the thing where He sent it.

Hebrews 4:12 – “For the Word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two edged sword, piercing even the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thought and intents of the heart.

The Holy Spirit abides within the born again believer, so that we can declare I John 4:4 – “Greater is He that is within you than he that is in the world!”

Romans 8:16 – His Spirit, (the Holy Spirit), beareth witness that we are the children of God

Romans 8:14 – For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons, (daughters), of God.

I am so thankful for the person of the Holy Spirit.  As Christians we have the privilege of listening to, and being led by Him.  To God be the Glory!
