At least four people have been killed as Syrian forces raided student accommodations in the city of Aleppo.

Forces opened fire with live ammunition on an anti-government protest outside Aleppo University student dormitories. In addition to the shooting of students, tear gas was used to disperse protestors.

The University has suspended all classes for the rest of the academic year due to the assault.

“Some students ran to their rooms to take cover but they were followed to their rooms, beaten up and arrested,” Thaer al-Ahmed, a student at Aleppo, told the Associated Press. “Others suffered cuts and broken bones as they tried to flee.”

The assault by government troops comes as the Syrian government continues to claim it is abiding by terms of the United Nations negotiated peace treaty.
