4,000 Iowa Cattle Die In Heat Wave

The Iowa Cattlemen’s Association said Tuesday that as many as 4,000 cattle have died in the recent heat wave.

The Des Moines Register is reporting Tuesday that up to 3,000 of the deaths occurred in eastern Iowa. Iowa Cattlemen’s Association spokeswoman Dal Grooms said totals from northwest Iowa push the number of cattle deaths to nearly 4,000.Iowa had heat indexes of 110 degrees or higher last week.Iowa, which has about 1.2 million cattle, is the fifth-largest cattle producing state in the nation.
