Мэтью 24:6 You will hear of wars and rumors of wars...
Israel and the United States agree as Binyamin Netanyahu meets with the U.S. Defense Secretary, Leon Panetta in Israel. Panetta reiterated, “We will not allow Iran to have a nuclear weapon, period!"
Meanwhile the news coming out of Iran is like a broken record. President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said the ultimate goal of world forces must be the annihilation of Israel. Ahmadinejad called the Holocaust a myth and has called for Israel’s annihilation before. In a 2005 speech he used a Persian phrase that translates literally as “wiped off the page of time,” in reference to Israel.
P.M. Binyamin Netanyahu says, “Time is running out for the international community to halt Iran’s nuclear program by peaceful means.” Sanctions, diplomacy and declarations have not yet convinced the Iranians to stop their nuclear fuel production and their atomic energy program.
Netanyahu insisted while talking with Leon Panetta, “However forceful our statements, they have not convinced Iran that we are serious about stopping them. Right now the Iranian regime believes that the international community does not have the will to stop its nuclear program.” Sanctions have hurt Iran’s economy but have not done anything to persuade Tehran to give up their nuclear research.
In recent weeks there have been four senior U.S. government officials visit Jerusalem, including the U.S. Defense Secretary to reassure Israel that the United States will stand with Israel. “We will not allow them (Иран) to develop a nuclear weapon, and we will exert all options in the effort to ensure that does not happen,” Panetta said.
The present administration in Washington is still concerned that Netanyahu may very well strike out militarily against Iran before the U.S. elections in November. There seems to be a divided front in Israel between the political and security forces. Military chief of staff Benny Gantz and Mossad chief Tamir Pardo, were opposed to Israel acting alone. The prime minister said, “In every democracy the decision-maker is the political echelon and the implementer is the professional echelon. That is how it always was and that is how it always will be.”
Netanyahu stressed the point to Panetta that Israel has a right and a responsibility to defend ourselves, “Things that affect our fate, our very existence, we don’t entrust to others, not even to our best friends.”
