Another “Gospel” Discovered in Iran

Galatians 1:6-9 ESV Do not be deceived by another Gospel! I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting Him who called you in the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel— not that there is another one, but there are some who trouble you and want to distort the gospel of Christ. But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach to you a gospel contrary to the one we preached to you, let him be accursed. As we have said before, so now I say again: If anyone is preaching to you a gospel contrary to the one you received, let him be accursed.”

Basij Press in Iran is claiming that a version of the Gospel of Barnabas, leather-bound text, written on animal hide was found in 2000. They say it proves that Islam is the final and righteous religion and this revelation will cause the collapse of Christianity as we have known it, worldwide.

Turkey captured this ancient book during a raid on a group of illegal smugglers. Authorities in Turkey are professing to have in their possession the authentic “Gospel of Barnabas.” They claim this is a true copy.

The Basiji Press in Iran reports, “This book predicts the coming of the Prophet Mohammad and the religion of Islam.” It was written in the fifth or sixth century. According to this text, Barnabas was a follower of Jesus and was associated with Saint Paul, the apostle.

Christendom denies the credibility of this version of the Gospel of Barnabas and scholars say there is yet another version of this book scribed less than 500 years ago, which would date it after the time of Mohammad.

It becomes evident that a follower of Mohammad had altered or written the original book which also depicts the story of Adam and Eve. The text reports a sign over a gateway to heaven from the Garden of Eden that reads; “Allah is the only God and Mohammad his prophet.”

This version of the Book of Barnabas is now in the possession of Turkish Army officials, who fear the “Zionists” and Christians want to keep the existence of this manuscript a secret. This book derides the divinity of Jesus, His crucifixion and goes so far to say that Jesus Himself foretold of Mohammad’s coming. It even predicts the coming of an Islamic messiah.

Tehran is saying, “The discovery of the original Barnabas Bible will undermine the authority of the Christian Church and will revolutionize other religions in this world.”

The Iran Basij report argues, “The most significant fact, however is that this Bible book has predicted the coming of Prophet Mohammad and in itself has verified the religion of Islam, and this alone will unbalance the powers of the world and create instability in the Christian world.”

In conclusion, the Iranian report states that this discovery is so immense it will affect the world’s politics, Christianity and the Zionist’s ideology and theology. It is this writer’s opinion that this is ‘wishful thinking.’

Turkey believes this could be an authentic version of the Gospel of Barnabas and plans to put this “Bible” on public display. Others are saying these writings are a fake because the text was written long after Mohammad’s life.

The Islamic Republic of Iran “is committed to stamping out Christianity by any means necessary, whether that is executing new Christian converts, burning Bibles or raiding underground churches,” said Erick Stakelbeck, host of the Christian Broadcasting Network’s “Stakelbeck on Terror” show and a close observer of Iranian affairs. “The so-called Barnabas Bible is not accepted by any mainstream Christian denomination.”

The Vatican in Rome has requested an opportunity to inspect the old texts, but at this time it is unknown if access has been granted by the Turkish government.

The outspoken Iranian ayatollahs continue to say that “Islam is the last and only righteous religion sent by God.”
