The old saying, darkest before the Dawn is not actually Bible but there is a consensus that it was authored by Thomas Fuller, an English theologian and historian in the mid 1600s.
In this spiritually dark world, we look forward to the dawn and the soon coming Light! Just before you are ready to give up, know that your salvation draws near. You can have hope, no matter what the circumstances. Hope can be a very powerful tool to help us take one more step, live another day and hope for a better tomorrow. “We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord,” 2 Corinthians 5:8 in these Last Days.
Scientifically, this old phrase is not true, it is actually the darkest at midnight. However, looking at these scriptures spiritually, we see a pattern. If you find yourself in the midnight hour with darkness and tribulation all around, also know, “at midnight there was a cry made. Behold, the bridegroom comes; go out to meet him.” Matthew 25:6 It’s the coming of Jesus for His true church.
“At midnight I will rise to give thanks unto thee because of thy righteous judgments.” Psalm 119:62. God inhabits the praises of His people, even at the heights of Great Tribulation and a time of great darkness.
And it was also “About midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the other prisoners were listening to them. Suddenly there was such a violent earthquake that the foundations of the prison were shaken. At once all the prison doors flew open, and everybody’s chains came loose.” Acts 16:25-26. God’s people were set free. Always remember where evil abounds, God’s grace bounds much more.
It was a very dark hour, for Pastor Jim Bakker when during the PTL downfall, Pastor Jim taped a segment for his viewers, partners and friends in which he told them, “The sun will shine again.” See page number 63 of Pastor Jim’s book, “I Was Wrong.” The sun truly shines again and each day is a brand new day, thanks to God’s grace and the restoration of His saints. Pastor Jim’s “Morningside” can now be understood in its historical context.
So as the Day of the Lord approaches, darkness and tribulation will increase as we see in our current Revelation News headlines. Christian persecution will increase. But, Christians can depend on the Word of God for their hope. Hang on to your faith!
The midnight hour may seem to be hours from the breaking Light, but the dawn can occur in just a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump!
