New Madrid Fault and Dividing Jerusalem

Matthew 24:7 Then He said to them: “Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be great earthquakes, famines and pestilences in various places, and fearful events and great signs from heaven.”

God says that if you “divide My land, ” (Jerusalem), that would be the same as “retaliating against Me.” God declares, “I will return your retaliation upon your own head,” . . . your own land. (Joel 3:2-4) Our country better stand firm with Israel on the issue of Jerusalem and concerning the land of Israel or we might find ourselves divided… quite literally.

There is a shaking going on in the world, earthquakes in diverse places. The New Madrid Seismic Zone has a potential to threaten parts of seven American states: Illinois, Indiana, Missouri, Arkansas, Kentucky, Tennessee and Mississippi.

There were massive quakes from the New Madrid Fault 1811 to 1812 and there is a potential to produce large earthquakes in the future. There are big differences between the 1800s in the United States and the 2012 of today. We now have larger populations, bigger, higher buildings and there are 15 nuclear power plants in the New Madrid fault zone, three of which are in Alabama and of the same or similar design of the reactor site in Japan and we all saw what happened to that one.

The area that is now Memphis, Tennessee was shaken at a level nine intensity. The seismic action propagated upriver, destroying Little Prairie by a flood of saturated soil substantially losing the strength and stiffness of the ground, in response to the applied stress of the earthquake. Local uplifts of the ground and water waves moving upstream gave the illusion that the river was flowing backwards. Trees were knocked over and riverbanks collapsed. This event shook windows and moved furniture in Washington, D.C. Bells rang in Richmond, Virginia and well water sloshed as the quake shook houses in Charleston, South Carolina.

Those that saw the earth shake and quake in Missouri reported that the earth shook for about 12 minutes saying it was really “severe.”

According to a new study at the University of Illinois, it is estimated that an earthquake along the New Madrid fault at a magnitude of 7.7 would probably kill about 3,500 people and leave more than 80,000 injured. At least 7 million people would find themselves homeless.

A report from the USGS predicts that a major quake would create appalling scenes like something right out of a Sci Fi movie at the theater. There would be a distinct possibility of a new body of water springing forth, dividing the eastern part of our country from the west in the middle of the United States from the Great Lakes to the Gulf of Mexico.

According to the USGS, “The older highways and railroad bridges that cross the Mississippi River, as well as older overpasses, would likely be damaged or collapse in the event of a major New Madrid earthquake.”

William Carwile, FEMA’s associate administrator for Response and Recovery told the U.S. Senate in September that if there is a major quake along the New Madrid fault line, it could displace 7.2 million people and knock out 15 bridges. He figures that kind of disaster would require 42,000 first responders from local fire departments all the way up to Pentagon forces to keep the peace.

The Mid-America Earthquake Center released an estimate this past year that 750,000 buildings might be damaged, 3,000 bridges could potentially collapse. There would be up to 400,000 breaks or more as well as leaks to local pipelines. They expect $300 billion in direct damage and $600 billion in indirect losses.

There have been signs that the New Madrid Fault is stirring and coming alive. It is 6 times bigger than the San Andreas Fault in California. When the New Madrid strikes again, it could change all of our lives.

The principles of God are never changing – God does not change. What He said to Joel and what is recorded in the scriptures about His feelings for His land has not changed. He is the same yesterday, today and forever.

Though it rains on the just and the unjust, national decisions may affect each one of us individually if this country pushes Israel to divide Jerusalem. This is a matter for intercession. God says, “pray for the peace of Jerusalem” and those who love her will prosper. (Psalm 122:6)

  1. Maybe it’s me but; with Jews (Gentiles, etc.) dying daily without the shed blood of the Savior, wouldn’t it be wiser to pray for their salvation?

Withholding the Gospel of Jesus Christ from them as not to offend, their blood is upon the hands of the Christian Zionist who refuse to give them the truth.

The Peace of Jerusalem is Jesus Christ and Him alone.

  2. We have lived in Sikeson Missouri which is 21 miles from New Madrid for many years….This is eactly what we have believed for years. We intercede for Israel as we live here. The natural instinct is to run but we know that intersession is needed as God desires his people to do. Our nation doesn’t need a president who doesn’t see this. Keep praying for our nation to wake up and stand with Isreal. Thank you for this opportunity to tell you that we are with you ISRAEL.

  3. RE: Jims comment of ‘watere, water, water’. Could the filling ccrater on the big Island of Hawaii cause the land slide that produces the 400′ predicted tsunami that will het the US west coast? The big Island has the same geology from the volcano that the Canary Island San Palo does.
The whole of the south east coast of Hawaii could slide.

  4. Studies have shown that we don’t know a lot about the New Madrid fault, so using a book that’s older than the discovery of this land that people didn’t know existed then should not be held as accurate. Recent studies have shown that the earthquakes on that fault have lessened. They also say that we could be overdue for a bigger one in the area. In short, NO ONE KNOWS. A bit of fear is okay, but I think tying these two things together is a stretch.
