“Tho she be but little, she is fierce”

Luke 19:43 The days will come upon you when your enemies will build an embankment against you and encircle you and hem you in on every side.

This saying is Shakespearian, but it certainly applies to present day Israel, who has been systematically building up its military for an attack on Iranian nuclear facilities.

Israel has grown insistent on international action against Iran, at the same time preparing to strike alone if they have to. It’s like little David with his sling and 5 round smooth stones against all the giants that have sworn to annihilate little Israel and wipe it off the map.

Israel’s intelligence information tells them the window of opportunity will close soon. Iran is in the process of moving their nuclear facilities deep underground, out of reach from conventional airpower.  Defense Minister Ehud Barak calls this the “zone of immunity.” At this point the world will be powerless to stop them from creating nuclear weapons.

Washington leaked top secret information about Israel obtaining an air base on the northern border of Iran, playing for more time, hoping that Israel would postpone plans of a preemptive strike, on their own.

Talk about FIERCE; Israel has 100 front-line aircraft out of their 300 ready to fly. Twenty-four F15i warplanes are being prepped with the capability of carrying heavy payloads that include 5,000-pound, laser-guided “bunker-busting” bombs.

In an attack of this nature, Israel can send up about one hundred F-16s (with upgraded fuel tanks) to escort the heavy attack planes as well as having the capability of hitting ground targets along the way. The Israeli Air Force also has long-range unmanned drones to provide intelligence and communications.

The distance between Tel Aviv and Tehran is about 1,000 miles, that means the IAF would have to refuel in the air over hostile territory, if the air base in Azerbaijan does not materialize.

Once the Israeli Air Force reaches the borders of Iran, they will come under heavy fire by air defense systems and Iranian planes. This is problematic but Israel thinks their radar jamming equipment and better firepower will allow them to complete their mission successfully.

Iran has developed new missiles, capable of striking Israel and threatens to use them if attacked. They will also retaliate through their terrorist allies, Hezbollah in Lebanon and Hamas in the Gaza Strip with thousands of rockets aimed at Israel.

Though they be little, Israel is fierce. They have air- defense systems for many different threats. They have been able to shoot down 90% of the incoming rockets fired from Gaza in recent days.
