He is Coming!

Betty Dewhirst

In Matthew 24, we read that Jesus sat upon the Mount of Olives with His disciples. They began to ask Him about the signs of His coming and the end of the world. The first thing He replied was, “Take heed that no man deceive you.” He warned them that false prophets would arise and that many would be deceived. He also related to them that they would hear of wars and rumors of wars, but that they should not let their hearts be troubled, for the end was not yet. He went on to say that nation would rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom, that there would be famines, pestilences and earthquakes in many places, and that these would be the beginning of sorrows. Doesn’t this sound like today?

He went on to tell them that they would be arrested, persecuted and killed because they were His followers and that many would turn away from Him and betray Him as well as hating each other. He also said that false prophets would arise and deceive many people. Today, in the church, we see history repeating itself. Great persecution has come to the believers in other countries as radical Islam has spread. It may soon happen here if America continues on the road she is on.

In the midst of all this, the Lord is doing a work in His People and is preparing them to stand in faith and to do spiritual warfare against the enemy. He is calling us into the secret place to spend time in His Presence. We need to hear what the Holy Spirit is saying to the church! We need to set our face as a flint and to follow Him wholly no matter what the cost.

He warned them that great tribulation was coming and that unless the days were shortened no flesh would be saved: but that for the elect’s sake they will be shortened.

My purpose in sharing this is not to debate eschatology but to share something that the Lord shared with me many years ago.

In these days, we need to keep our hearts in tune with the Holy Spirit. False christs and false prophets will arise! We have been forewarned. We are not to go here or there and follow after any man, but to keep our hearts open to hear from Heaven.

I would like to quote Matthew 24:26–28. “Wherefore if they shall say unto you, Behold he is in the desert; go not forth: behold he is in the secret chambers; believe it not. For as the lightning cometh out of the east, and shineth even unto the west; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. For wheresoever the carcase is, there will the eagles be gathered together.” KJV

That last verse is what caught my attention. In fact, I felt the Lord showed me something. I wasn’t trying to figure it out. To help you better understand what I mean I want to share some other verses.

In Luke 17:35-37, we read:

“Two women shall be grinding together; the one shall be taken, and the other left. Two men shall be in the field; the one shall be taken, and the other left. And they answered and said unto Him, Where Lord? And He said unto them, Wheresoever the body is, thither will the eagles be gathered together.” KJV

Jesus told them that some would be left and some would be taken and they said, “Where Lord?” In other words, they asked, “Where will they be taken?” He replied, “Where the body is, the eagles will be gathered together.”

In my mind’s eye I saw vultures being drawn to a dead body. In the same manner, we will be drawn by God’s Spirit in these last days to Jesus. As vultures are drawn to a body, so shall we be drawn by the Holy Spirit to Jesus!

We are eagles! We will not have to go searching. We shall be gathered together unto Him. We are in Him and He is in us and when the trumpet sounds we shall be caught up to meet Him in the air, forever to be with the Lord. Let us encourage one another with these words! He is coming for us!

1 Thessalonians 4:16-18 – “For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. Wherefore comfort one another with these words.” KJV
