Islamist Militants in Africa Coordinate Efforts

The head of US Africa Command (Africom) is warning that three of Africa’s largest Islamist groups are coordinating efforts and materials.

General Carter Ham, commander of Africom, cited the North African al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM) is sharing explosives and money with Boko Haram, the Islamic terrorist group slaughtering Christians in Nigeria. Continue reading

Terrorist Bombings Kill 13 At Baghdad Market

Thirteen people were killed and over 100 wounded when terrorists struck a market in the middle of Baghdad.

The first of two bombs exploded while civilian shoppers were purchasing their morning produce. The suburb of the bombing, al-Husseiniya, is largely a residential area for Shia Muslims.

A second bomb exploded minutes later targeting Iraqi security forces rushing to reach the scene.

Over 130 people have been killed by terrorist attacks in Baghdad during the month of June.

 

Clashes In Libya Leave 105 Dead

Tribal clashes in Libya have killed 105 people and left over 500 injured according to the Libyan government.

The government deployed the army to the region and has reported no new fighting since troops arrived on the scene. The clashes have been happening in cities 90 miles south of the capital city of Tripoli. Continue reading

Hamas Attacks Israel With Rockets and Mortars

Hamas admitted to an attack against Israel involving rockets and mortars. Hamas usually denies making attacks on Israel but spokesman Fawzi Barhoum claimed the attacks were in response to Israeli strikes.

Hamas had initially blamed Israel for the death of a two-year-old girl in Gaza stating she died from an Israeli air strike. It was later shown that she actually died during a botched rocket attack by Hamas. Continue reading

Mali Could Become Home For Islamic Terrorists

French President Francois Hollande stated that Mali could become a home for Islamic terrorist groups and become a major threat to the entire region. His comments came during meetings with Niger President Mahamadou Issoufou. Issoufou shared that he had information Malian rebels are being trained by Pakistani and Afghani jihadists.

Issoufou said West African countries would approach the UN Security Council to provide assistance with military operations against the Islamist affiliated group. The French president said France would support such a move but that the African groups would need to be the ones leading it. Continue reading

Baghdad Bomb Attacks Kill 12

Police in Baghdad are reporting that 12 people were killed and 29 wounded in a series of bomb attacks.

The biggest blast was a car bomb that exploded outside a busy restaurant in the northern part of the city. Four other bombings struck the city yesterday including one that exploded outside the home of an advisor to Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki.  Continue reading

Homicide Bombing Kills Policeman In Turkey

A homicide bomber has killed one policeman in an attack on a police station in central Turkey.

Two attackers tried to ram a car into the Kayseri police station and were killed in the terror attack. A bomb inside the car detonated shortly after the car crashed following a clash with security officers.

The terrorists ran through a police checkpoint 55 miles away from Kayseri earlier in the morning. Continue reading
