The way not to go crazy while the world is falling apart is for you to have it together. -Pastor Jim Bakker

You do not have to spend money to survive. -Bill Whaley

Narrative

Bill Whaley shows the Bakker’s and their studio audience how to make electric-free devices from ordinary things. They can be used in emergency situations when there is no gas or electric. One invention is a cooker made of an old window, scrap plywood, and aluminum foil. Heat from the sun can easily get it up to 350 degrees, which is enough to bake a turkey. Another cooker he uses is made from an old satellite dish and mylar. For mylar, Bill just used old potato chip bags turned inside out. The food packets offered on the show are also made from mylar. This cooker can get up to 500 degrees. A tip is to find good cast-iron cookware reasonably at flea markets. They would be perfect to use on these solar-powered cookers.

Many people are getting back to growing their own food and rightfully so. The prices of food have become terrible as produce is shipped from all over. Bill Whaley does not use dirt to grow his food. He makes his own dirt using leaves, newspapers and other materials. He states this makes the best compost for growing fruits and vegetables there is. The benefit to this style of garden is there will be no weeds and little maintenance. Items that are planted in the ground have weeds and are subject to other issues; making compost is the best way to plant a vibrant garden. Whaley suggest putting urine on the garden as a way to fertilize and avoid pests. It is not uncommon to see farmers in the field with big white tanks that say ammonia on the side. These tanks are filled with pure ammonia, which is urine and it is beneficial to the fields. It also aids in the decomposition process.

To some they are trash, the tissue paper and paper towel tubes, but to Bill Whaley they are treasures. These little tubes can be used by cutting them into 4” sections and putting slits they become seed starters. When the seeds are ready to be planted into the ground, the tubes can be planted as well and they will decompose and help to feed the plants. Interesting ways, such as this one, can save the average consumer a great deal of money. There can be a second use for most things that we simply throw away. Bill lives within the laws of the land but find ways to make the laws work for him.

Bill Whaley’s zany ideas are not for the faint of heart, but a lot of people do not realize that while recycling is good, it takes energy. Reusing and re-purposing does not take a lot of energy. Bill uses ordinary trash and re-purposes it for new projects. These projects do not cost a great deal of money and can be very beneficial in times of crisis. The simple life and living off the land is being touted by even Hollywood stars.

Eventually, we are going to run out of room to put all of our garbage. The earth can only have so many landfills. If we can use some of Bill Whaley’s suggestions, a lot less things are going to have to be made or throw away. People who went through the depression, learned how to live a simplistic life and cherish even the smallest things we throw away today. For the Christian, the tribulation period or beginning of sorrows is an event that should be prepared for way in advance. Having the proper knowledge on how to survive is not beneficial but it will be essential.
