Jihadist Group In Syria Pledges Allegiance To Al-Qaeda

Revelation 6:3-4 NCV When the Lamb opened the second seal, I heard the second living creature say, "Come!" Then another horse came out, a red one. Its rider was given power to take away peace (prosperity, rest) from the earth and to make people kill each other (butcher, slaughter, to maim violently, in streets), and he was given a big sword (assassins sword, terrorist, loud, mighty, sore afraid).

The al-Nusra Front, a jihadist group fighting to overthrow the Syrian government, has pledged their support and vowed allegiance to al-Qaeda head Ayman al-Zawahiri.

Al-Qaeda in Iraq announced a merger with al-Nusra.

The new group, according to Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi of al-Qaeda, will be called The Islamic State In Iraq and the Levant.

The U.S. has designated al-Nusra a terrorist organization. Their connection to the rebels in Iraq could hamper support from outside nations.

Spokesmen for the Free Syrian Army, the main opposition to the Syrian government, quickly announced they do not support the ideology of al-Nusra. They admitted having conducted operations with al-Nusra in the past but there will “never be a decision at the command level to coordinate with al-Nusra.”

Activist groups reported another 70 people died in violence on Wednesday. Over 60,000 have died since the uprising against President Bashar al-Assad began a year ago.
