Rescue efforts in the Solomon Islands have been hampered by ongoing aftershocks of significant intensity. Late Friday local time, a 7.1 magnitude aftershock caused residents to fear a second tsunami was possible. The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said the quake did not cause a tsunami.

Egypt’s foreign currency reserves took a major hit in January falling 10%.
Egypt’s central bank said that reserves fell $1.4 billion during the month as political unrest and violent protests start to have a major impact on the government’s ability to collect funds. At least four people are dead and dozens injured in a series of protests connected to the Islamist group Jamaat-e-Islami after one of its leaders was convicted of murder and other war crimes charges Tuesday.

French Defense Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian has told reporters that French troops have killed “hundreds of militants” since entering the country’s war on January 11th.

Chad military forces seized the city of Kidal in northern Mali, marking the first time an all-African force has captured a city in the battle against Islamic terrorists, according to French military forces.

A terrorist attack on a Black Sea resort in Bulgaria in July 2012 has been definitively linked to the Islamic terrorist group Hezbollah. A homicide bomber approached a bus in the resort of Burgas donated his device. Five Israelis and the driver of the bus were killed along with 30 injured.
Interior Minister Tsvetan Tsvetanov said the results of the six-month investigation showed the attack was carried out by members of Hezbollah carrying Australian and Canadian passports. Continue reading →
A major leader of Bangladesh’s largest Islamic group has been convicted on war crimes charges related to the country’s 1971 revolution.
Abdul Kader Mullah, 64, has been sentenced to life in prison.
The tribunal found Mullah guilty on five of six charges including murder. Mullah was found to be a leader of the al-Bahr force which Jamaat-e-Islami created in the final days of the war to kidnap, beat and execute intellectuals.
