Death Toll In Refugee Boat Sinking Rises To 232

Divers entering the wreckage of a sunken boat that carried refugees from Africa to Italy reporting finding 38 bodies in the hull that were “so entwined one with the other” that they’ve had difficulty bringing the remains to the surface.

The discovery of the bodies has raised the death toll from the accident to 232 people.

The boat caught fire and sank near the Sicilian island of Lampedusa carried more than 500 refugees from Somalia and Eritrea.

“Some [bodies] we have found with their arms outstretched. We try not to notice this kind of thing too much, otherwise the task is too difficult,” police diver Riccardo Nobile told the BBC. “We can see a woman’s hair floating out of a broken porthole. But we haven’t been able to get to her.”

The United Nations says that 3,000 people try to flee Eritrea every month.

FOX News: Connecticut woman killed after Capitol Hill chase reportedly had mental health issues

The suspect in the high-speed chase between the White House and the Capitol Building was identified Friday by a law enforcement source as a dental hygienist from Connecticut with a history of mental issues.

The source identified the woman as Miriam Carey, 34, of Stamford, Conn. Carey tried to plow her car into a barricade at the White House, then led cops on a high-speed chase before being shot dead near the Capitol, according to reports.

Other reports suggest that she had a history of mental health issues.

Carey’s apartment in Stamford was swarmed by the FBI and various law-enforcement agencies Thursday evening, with helicopters circling and a bomb squad ready, as they awaited a warrant to search the premises.

Hornet Attacks Kill 41 In China

Chinese state run media is reporting that 41 people have been killed in mass hornet attacks since July.

The China News Agency reports more than 1,600 people have been injured by hornet attacks in Shaanxi province. More than 200 are still hospitalized with 37 in critical condition.

Most of the attacks have been attributed to the Asian giant hornet which can grow up to 2 inches long with a stinger ¼ inch long. The hornet’s venom contains a neurotoxin that can lead to renal failure.

Local officials say warmer weather has contributed to a rise in hornet numbers. Environmental activists blame the increase on rapid urbanization intruding into land where hornets build nests and hunt.

Police and firefighters throughout the region have been given special protective gear to remove or destroy hornet nests. Provincial government authorities have brought in Pest control experts.
