Major Quake In Japan Causes Tsunami

A major earthquake rocked Japan Friday shaking buildings in Tokyo and causing a small tsunami to hit one of the areas devastated in the March 2011 tsunami that killed thousands.

The 7.3 quake struck approximately 287 miles off the coast at a depth of 22 miles. The quake caused a 3 foot high tsunami that was followed by waves of up to 2 feet. Minor injuries have been reported so far as a result of the quake. Continue reading

Anchorage Shaken By 5.8 Earthquake

An earthquake measuring 5.8 on the Richter scale shook Anchorage, Alaska and was felt for 175 miles from the epicenter according to the US Geological Survey.

The epicenter of the quake was approximately 30 miles northwest of downtown Anchorage. Despite the strength, the tsunami warning center reported no threat to the coastal areas. Continue reading

Major Earthquake Strikes Chile

A major earthquake has struck along the Chilean coastline sending people running into the streets and knocking out communications throughout the region.

The US Geological survey reports a preliminary 6.1 magnitude quake struck about 55 miles north of Coquimbo, Chile just after 4 p.m. local time. Despite the epicenter’s proximity to the coastline, the Chilean Oceanographic Service dismissed the possibility of a tsunami from the quake. Continue reading

Earthquake Rocks New England

A 4.0 earthquake centered about 3 miles from Hollis Center, Maine shook buildings to the point residents rushed into the streets. However, no serious property damage or injuries resulted from the quake.

“It was the loudest bang you ever heard in your life,” Jessica Hill, owner of Waterboro House of Pizza, told the Associated Press. “We actually thought it was an explosion of some type. The back door and the door to the basement blew open.” Continue reading
