Death Toll In Iran Earthquake Continues To Rise

The death toll from Saturday’s twin earthquakes in northwestern Iran is now responsible for 306 deaths according to government officials. Officials attribute the climbing toll to injured dying in hospitals and reports of dead buried by family members before the arrival of government staff.

A 6.4 magnitude earthquake struck at 5:23pm local time followed by a 6.3 earthquake in the same area 11 minutes later. Officials report that 20 villages in the region were completely destroyed and hundreds of others have suffered varying levels of damage. Continue reading

Series of major earthquakes in northwestern Iran reportedly leaves dozens dead

DEVELOPING: Northwestern  Iran was struck Saturday by a series of major earthquakes, the strongest  registering magnitude 6.4, as local media reported dozens of people dead and  hundreds hurt.

An official said in local media reports cited by Reuters that 40 to 50 people  were killed and 400 hurt, but those numbers couldn’t be independently  confirmed.

Earthquakes Rock Western US

California and Alaska have been rocked with multiple earthquakes in the last 24 hours.

Yorba Linda, California was struck with three earthquakes in just over one hour. The first, a magnitude 4.5, struck at 9:33 am local time, less than a mile and a half from the city center. The second hit 18 minutes later and measured 3.4 on the Richter Scale. The quake centered 2½ miles from the city. Continue reading

Death Totals Still Unknown In Afghanistan Earthquake

The numbers of deaths are expected to rise as more reports come in from areas in Afghanistan devastated by a pair of weekend earthquakes. The 5.4 and 5.7 quakes were located a few miles apart and struck within a minute of each other on Monday morning. Landslides buried or destroyed at least 20 village homes.

Three deaths have been confirmed but others are feared to have been buried in the landslides. Continue reading

Earthquakes Shake Both Sides of the Ring of Fire

Two large earthquakes rocked countries on opposite sides of the “Ring of Fire”.

A 7.1 earthquake shook Papua New Guinea in the South Pacific.  The earthquake did not cause any major structural damage or injuries because of it’s location however it was felt for hundreds of miles.  Due to the depth of the earthquake there was no tsunami warning issued for this quake.
