Death Toll 80 in Afghanistan Earthquake

Luke 21:11 There will be great earthquakes, famines and pestilences in various places, and fearful events and great signs from heaven.

<blockquote>“I believe the earth itself is groaning (Rom. 8:19-22) in anticipation of the Lord’s return. Part of this groaning includes floods, volcanoes, tidal waves, hurricanes, and earthquakes.”

Baghlan governor Munshi Majeed told the BBC that more than 80 people have been killed in a massive landslide caused by twin earthquakes in Afghanistan on Monday.

“This is a human tragedy,” Majeed said. “An entire village was lost.”

Officials said bulldozers have begun attempting to excavate the scene of the disaster but that only two bodies have been recovered as of this morning. The United Nations is working with local officials to find out what they can do to help in the search and recovery.

Officials were not optimistic that anyone could still be alive trapped in a buried building.

“We have seen body parts in some areas,” Majeed told the BBC. “No human noise or sound has been heard.”

In 2002, over 2,000 people were killed in the same area by an earthquake.
