About 1,100 injured as meteorite hits Russia with force of atomic bomb
A meteor streaked across the sky and exploded over Russia’s Ural Mountains with the power of an atomic bomb Friday, its sonic blasts shattering countless windows and injuring about 1,100 people.
The spectacle deeply frightened many Russians, with some elderly women declaring that the world was coming to an end. Many of the injured were cut by flying glass as they flocked to windows, curious about what had produced such a blinding flash of light. Continue reading

Meteorites Strike Russia; 1100 Injured
A meteor raced across the sky in southern Russia, causing a sonic boom that blew out windows and caused the collapse of buildings.
The shockwave from the explosion of the meteorite caused over 1100 injuries in the area around Chebarkul. Children made 82 of the injuries and two are in intensive care. Continue reading
Record-breaking Asteroid To Pass Earth
An asteroid half the size of a football field is passing by Earth Friday in the closest ever approach by an object of its size.
The asteroid, called 2012 DA14, will pass between the Earth and satellites in orbit. The closest point to the Earth is believed to be 5,000 miles closer than the satellites which make up the GPS navigational system or 1/13th the distance from the Earth to the moon. Continue reading
