Columbia Dodges Bullet In Large Earthquake

Luke 21:11 There will be great earthquakes, famines and pestilences in various places, and fearful events and great signs from heaven.

“Catastrophic calamities are coming upon the earth, not one of these days in the distant future, but soon—now! Torrential rains, unsettling weather patterns, violent storms, floods, famines, droughts, earthquakes increasing in frequency and intensity, volcanic eruptions, and a host of other signs of the times Jesus told us to watch for are happening now.”

-Jim Bakker in “Prosperity and the Coming Apocalypse”

The most significant earthquake to strike Columbia since 2004 was deep enough underground to avoid causing catastrophic damage according to the US Geological Survey reports. The 7.3 quake centered at an underground depth of 94 miles.

The quake reportedly shook the ground for a full minute and was felt in most of the country. There were reports of shaking in Quito, Equador almost 200 miles from the quake’s epicenter near Popayan.

Edith Cabeza, Cauca state security chief, said that there was no major damage or deaths in the epicenter region. Various local news outlets have reported minor damage to houses and clinics including one in Cali that had to be evacuated as a precaution.

The same region was hit by a major quake in 1983 that destroyed much of the capital city Popayan’s historical center and killed over 250 people.

“Fortunately, the quake was deep,” Jaime Raigosa of the National Seismological Network told Reuters.
