Nearly Half of All First Births In America Out Of Wedlock

Luke 17:28-30 “Likewise as it was also in the days of Lot: They ate, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they built” but on the day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven and destroyed them all. Even so will it be in the day when the Son of Man is revealed.

A new study is showing that not only are Americans waiting longer to get married but that most first children born into a family are born out of wedlock.

The National Marriage Project at the University of Virginia showed that the average age of women to marry is 27, men 29 with an upward trend due to economic and cultural reasons.

The disturbing data showed that the average age of a woman to have their first child is 25.7, well below the median age for marriage of 26.5. While the trend of children outside marriage has been seen in studies for years of lower economic women, the trend has now crossed over into middle-income women.

“The biggest downside to delayed marriage in America is that many young adults are now putting the baby carriage before marriage,” said co-author and National Marriage Project director Bradford Wilcox. “What they often don’t realize is that children born outside of marriage are significantly more likely to be exposed to a revolving cast of caretakers and the social, emotional and financial fallout associated with family instability and single parenthood.”

The report says that culture is playing a role as secular American society no longer puts a high value on marriage as a foundation for life, making it more something to add to the idea of a career and children at a later date.
