Oklahoma Death Toll Revised to 24; Some Dead Counted Twice

The death toll from the horrific Moore, Oklahoma tornado has been revised down to 24 after officials from the State Medical Examiner’s office said that some of the dead had been counted multiple times in the chaos following the storm.

What has been confirmed is that 7 children drowned in the basement of the destroyed Plaza Towers elementary school. As many as two dozen children from the school reportedly are still missing according to multiple local officials.

Monday’s tornado was the fourth to hit the Oklahoma City suburb since 1998. In 1999, a tornado with record-settling 300 mph winds caused hundreds of millions of dollars in damages.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol has released a statement that 101 people were found alive overnight amid the rubble. Rescue efforts continue across the city as another band of severe weather is bearing down upon emergency personnel.

Oklahoma Lt. Governor Todd Lamb told a local television station that he not there to get attention but there to work.

“My boots are on and my gloves are ready,” he told KOCO-TV.

Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano is sending a medical tent to the community that will allow first responders and doctors on site to perform emergency surgery should a life threatening medical condition arise among the survivors.
