Over 200,000 Have Left Syrian Civil War

Matthew 24:6 You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come.

The United Nations agency that helps refugees has reported that over 200,000 people have now fled the civil war in Syria.

Over 30,000 have fled to Turkey, Iraq, Lebanon and Jordan in the last week.

The recent mass exodus is attributed to the increase in government attacks on cities believed to be strongholds of the Free Syrian Army. Activists reported that on Thursday tanks from the government reached the center of Damascus suburb Darayya killing 20 people along the way.

The UN is reporting a problem developing in neighboring Lebanon where 50,000 people have sought refuge. The Syrian conflict is beginning to boil over into border regions making that area unstable.

Government forces in Darayya have killed at least 70 people, mostly civilians. A media blackout is hampering reports of death tolls from Aleppo and Damascus.
