Tens of Thousands Flee Flooding In Mozambique

Luke 21:25,26 NLT “And there will be strange signs in the sun, moon, and stars. And here on earth the nations will be in turmoil, perplexed by the roaring seas and strange tides. People will be terrified at what they see coming upon the earth, for the powers in the heavens will be shaken.”

With rivers already above crisis levels, Mozambique government officials are evacuating tens of thousands from the Gaza region in the southern part of the country. Over 55,000 people are expected to be removed from their homes.

The central and southern parts of the country have been placed on red alert because of the flooding. The country experienced 7 inches of rain in a 24 hour period on Monday.

Emergency teams have been placed on stand-by and boats have been deployed to search for anyone stranded because of the flood waters. Temporary shelters have been set up throughout the region and in the capital of Maputo.

The town of Chokwe is believed to be in critical danger as flood waters are weakening a dyke just above the town. Observers believe if that dyke breaks the ensuing flooding increase could be devastating to rescue operations.

Surrounding countries have been hit by flooding as well. South Africa reports several dead and hundreds stranded by flooding.
