A church in upstate New York that once held designation as a historical landmark will now be stripped of that designation and have the crosses on the building ripped down so that a Muslim group can turn the building into a mosque.
The Syracuse History Preservation Board has given permission to the Muslim-driven North Side Learning Center to destroy six crosses that were placed at the top of the century-old building.
German immigrants seeking freedom of worship built the church.
The Catholic Church closed the church in 2010 because of decreasing attendance, merging the congregation with another parish. The building still had been designated as a historic landmark by the city after the closure.
A spokesman for the city said that the city did not have an opinion on the loss of the historic status for the building, saying that they wouldn’t stop the destruction of the crosses because it would inhibit the worship of the Muslims.
A pair of federal judges is endorsing discrimination against groups because of their faith in a ruling against churches meeting in New York City schools.
In a 2-1 ruling by the Second Circuit Court of Appeals, the court said that New York City school officials could deny Christian groups the same right to rent space inside their buildings that are offered to other groups. The liberal judges ruled that the Free Exercise Clause did not require government to finance exercise of religion.
However, the dissenting justice pointed out the majority’s endorsement of discrimination.
“Allowing an entity to use public school space open to all others on equal terms is hardly the financing of that entity,” Judge John Waller wrote. “However, shutting the door to religious worship services in such a setting when every other activity is permitted strikes at the Clause’s core.”
The Alliance Defending Freedom, who is representing the church involved with the case, is working on an appeal of the ruling.
A New York City pastor attempting to shine the light of Christ in one of the seediest parts of the city is attempting to raise the funds to turn the area’s last strip club into the church’s new home.
Pastor Reggie Stutzman of Real Life Church told the Christian Post that a witnessing opportunity outside the club was a sign that God is going to bring “revival” into the city.
“I had an extraordinary conversation with this man who used to be a patron there. He said his life is just a wreck,” the pastor said. He was speaking with a driver outside the Platinum Pleasures club in Hunts Point. The church’s members have been meeting in front of the church every Tuesday for prayer since that day.
Now, the club has a for sale banner hanging across their front.
“God is bringing the prodigals home and He’s going to use this club and Real Life Church to be a part of the big picture, that revival is coming to NYC. It’s exciting,” said Stutzman.
Hunts Point is known as one of most dangerous areas in the city with a heavy prostitution program.
The recent outbreak of measles in New York City appears to have a very unlikely source.

The Department has confirmed their investigators are looking into the possibility that virus was spreading through waiting rooms packed with people waiting for the ER to become available to see them. Because the virus can be spread easily when someone coughs, a person infected with the virus could potentially expose hundreds while waiting for a doctor.
“Sometimes the doctors are not quick to recognize that it is measles and therefore before you know it that patient has been sitting in a waiting room with 20 or 30 people around them and now they are exposed because these types of diseases are very infectious,” said Dr. Manny Alvarez of Fox News Channel.
Emails were sent to staff at New York Presbyterian Hospital/Columbia University Medical Center giving instructions to help staff better recognize the signs of measles and encouraging them to act quickly and appropriately.

Central Park in New York registered 4 degrees Tuesday morning passing the previous record of 6 degrees. The temperature on Tuesday was 50 degrees lower than Monday.
Wind chills throughout New York will remain well below zero throughout the next two days.
The weather in New York was so cold that Amtrak had to suspend service because their signals stopped working due to the cold weather.
Other record lows were set throughout the country. Chicago broke a record with -16 degrees, Fort Wayne, Indiana saw -13 degrees. Multiple towns in Oklahoma and Texas reported record lows along with wind chills passing -40 degrees.
A massive winter storm that has brought snow over New England for the last 36 hours will end up dumping as much as 30 inches of snow in parts of Boston.
The storm has also brought temperatures in the dangerous range.
Most communities across the northeast are reporting temperatures that are topping out in the single digits above zero with wind chills significantly below zero.
New York City told residents to stay home until the storm ends. Meteorologists with the National Weather Service said the wind chill through the northeast corridor is so low that exposed skin could start to freeze in 15 minutes.
School districts across the region were closed to keep children safe.
Officials believe that temperatures will rise into the 40s on Sunday with rain helping to clear roads.
A New York police officer is being hailed after literally giving the shirt off his back.
Officer Carlos Ramos, a member of the NYPD transit bureau’s anti-terrorism unit, was searching for suspicious packages or activity in Manhattan when he found a homeless man shivering and ripping up his T-shirt to wrap his bare feet.
The man, Robert William, had gotten his boots wet on a morning with temperatures well below freezing.
Ramos took off his sweatshirt and handed it to the man so he could warm up. Police officials say it’s not the first time the 29-year-old has taken extra steps to help those in need in the community.
“I’ve helped out other people, especially when it’s cold,” Officer Ramos told the New York Daily News. “A nice cup of coffee, a tea, whatever seems appropriate… always wanted to help those that need help, protect the city, protect the country.”
