The second in command of Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula has been killed in an operation lead by Yemeni government forces.
Said al-Shihri, a Saudi Arabian national released by the US from Guantanamo Bay in 2007, was reportedly killed by a strike from a US drone along with six other terrorists. Two women and 15 men were found murdered along the side of a road in the Kajaki district of Afghanistan murdered by Taliban insurgents. All the victims were either beheaded or had their throats slashed. Most showed evidence of beatings and some had shotgun wounds.
Local officials confirmed the Taliban murdered the civilians.

An attack on the Yemeni Intelligence Headquarters in Aden has killed 14 people and injured dozens.

A series of bombings targeting Muslims preparing for the end of Ramadan have killed at least 42 and wounded 130.
The attacks struck at opposite ends of the country and were clearly aimed at civilians.
Four homicide bombers killed 30 in the market areas of the city of Zaranj. Intelligence officials in Zaranj told the BBC that they have arrested several other homicide bombers and said as many at 14 may be in the city. Yemeni government officials announced that al-Qaeda is responsible for a homicide bombing this weekend that killed 45 people and injured dozens.
The homicide bomber walked into a funeral in the city of Jaar and detonated his explosive belt. The service was conducted by a group of tribal militiamen who have supported the Yemeni military in their attempts to eliminate al-Qaeda in the nation. Continue reading →
Three men suspected of ties to al-Qaeda have been arrested in Spain along with explosive material. Three other men have been arrested in connection to the weapons and explosives discovered after an operation by Spanish police.

Over 325 people died in Iraq during the month of July marking the biggest monthly death toll in almost two years. Over 80 were police and soldiers with the remaining 241 civilians. Most were killed by al-Qaeda insurgents.
