Gunman Kills 26 In School Massacre

Evil struck Newtown, Connecticut this morning.

A gunman killed 26 people, including 20 children, before turning the gun on himself in the second worst school shooting in United States history.

Adam Lanza, 20, shot and killed his mother at their home in Newtown before going to the school and killing all the students in his mother’s kindergarten class.  In addition to the children, Lanza killed the principal and five other adults. Continue reading

Sandy Death Toll Now At 88

The official death toll from super storm Sandy is now 88 in the U.S. with almost half of those deaths in New York City. Many others remain missing and are feared dead including several children.

The death toll in the United States alone has surpassed the storm’s death toll from the rest of the world impacted by the storm. The death toll jumped overnight as 15 bodies were found in Staten Island as responders are just starting to work their way through the devastation. Continue reading

West Nile Virus Cases Continue To Set Records

The outbreak of West Nile Virus in the United States continues to set records as infections reported to the CDC skyrocket.

Arkansas health officials have reported that 5 people have died from the virus this year. In addition, officials confirm that 43 people have been infected by the virus this year in the state. By comparison, there was only one case of West Nile Virus in Arkansas last year and no deaths. Continue reading

Dramatic Rise In Syrian Civilian Deaths

Civilian casualities in Idlib and Hama have dramatically risen according to Amnesty International’s report that government forces are indiscriminately firing missiles and making air strikes into civilians neighborhoods.

The Amnesty International report says that the international community has not seen the war crimes happening in the two provinces because media outlets have been focused on the fighting in the larger cities of Damascus and Aleppo. Continue reading

Cambodian Mystery Disease Kills 61 Children

A mystery disease that has killed 61 of 62 children diagnosed with the illness has baffled Cambodian health officials.

The only thing health officials and World Health Organization staff has determined is that it’s very unlikely the disease is transmitted from person to person. All of the victims were under 10 years old. They first had a high fever and then neurological and respiratory problems progressed quickly after the fever. Continue reading
