Nearly 400 die as Myanmar army steps up crackdown on Rohingya militants

Rohingya refugees stands in an open place during heavy rain, as they are hold by Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) after illegally crossing the border, in Teknaf, Bangladesh, August 31, 2017.

COX’S BAZAR, Bangladesh (Reuters) – Nearly 400 people have died in fighting that has rocked Myanmar’s northwest for a week, new official data show, making it probably the deadliest bout of violence to engulf the country’s Rohingya Muslim minority in decades.

Around 38,000 Rohingya have crossed into Bangladesh from Myanmar, United Nations sources said, a week after Rohingya insurgents attacked police posts and an army base in Rakhine state, prompting clashes and a military counteroffensive.

“As of August 31, 38,000 people are estimated to have crossed the border into Bangladesh,” the officials said on Friday, in their latest estimate.

The army says it is conducting clearance operations against “extremist terrorists” and security forces have been told to protect civilians. But Rohingya fleeing to Bangladesh say a campaign of arson and killings aims to force them out.

The treatment of Myanmar’s roughly 1.1 million Rohingya is the biggest challenge facing national leader Aung San Suu Kyi, accused by some Western critics of not speaking out for a minority that has long complained of persecution.

The clashes and ensuing army crackdown have killed about 370 Rohingya insurgents, but also 13 security forces, two government officials and 14 civilians, the Myanmar military said on Thursday.

By comparison, communal violence in 2012 in Sittwe, the capital of Rakhine, led to the killing of nearly 200 people and the displacement of about 140,000, most of them Rohingya.

The fighting is a dramatic escalation of a conflict that has simmered since October, when similar but much smaller Rohingya attacks on security posts prompted a brutal military response dogged by allegations of rights abuses.

Myanmar evacuated more than 11,700 “ethnic residents” from the area affected by fighting, the army said, referring to the non-Muslim population of northern Rakhine.

More than 150 Rohingya insurgents staged fresh attacks on security forces on Thursday near villages occupied by Hindus, the state-run Global New Light of Myanmar said, adding that about 700 members of such families had been evacuated.

“Four of the terrorists were arrested, including one 13-year-old boy,” it said, adding that security forces had arrested two more men near a Maungdaw police outpost on suspicion of involvement in the attacks.

About 20,000 more Rohingya trying to flee are stuck in no man’s land at the border, the U.N. sources said, as aid workers in Bangladesh struggle to alleviate the sufferings of a sudden influx of thousands of hungry and traumatized people.

While some Rohingya try to cross by land, others attempt a perilous boat journey across the Naf River separating the two countries.

Bangladesh border guards found the bodies of 15 Rohingya Muslims, 11 children among them, floating in the river on Friday, area commander Lt. Col. Ariful Islam told Reuters.

That takes to about 40 the total of Rohingya known to have died by drowning.

Something Big is About to Happen!

Lori and I want so much for people to be ready for anything and I know in my heart that something big is about to happen!

I’m not the only one feeling this way! When Pastor John Hagee was here with us recently he said, “I think the message that God is sending to His children is that the King is coming, get ready, get ready, get ready, the Son of God is about to appear in the clouds of Heaven and this world is soon to be over.” Both, Pastor Hagee and Pastor Mark Biltz are warning of major prophetic events surrounding the appearance of the ‘blood moons’ in conjunction with Israel’s Holy Feast Days.

The signs in the heavens couldn’t be any more apparent, marking major prophetic events which will become clear as we wait on the Lord. The message right now is to get ready! If the church gets ready now, we can minister with compassion to many more people – and perhaps lead them to Jesus. Continue reading

Food Prices Skyrocket Due To Weather

Food prices worldwide have jumped due to unusual weather patterns. Prices jumped 6% in July. The United Nation’s Food and Agriculture Organization food price index measures price changes for a basket of food including cereals, dairy and meat. The July index, while higher, is still below the all-time record in February 2011.

The FAO released a report for July when they normally avoid issuing a report. The given reason was the “exceptional market conditions” that the drought in the USA, excessive rains in Brazil and production problems in Russia have caused in the world supply. Continue reading

Crying Out in Unison – Rick Joyner’s Message

I rarely post someone else’s message, but I’m going to make an exception with this one.  The following message is authored by the pastor at Rick Joyner’s Moravian Falls church in North Carolina.  I’m posting it here, in my blog because I believe it’s for all of us.  I’m not the only one who cries out for the church to be ready.  Those who are listening, cry out in unison with the Spirit of God for the Church.

Please read this post and take it to heart.  The time to get ready is NOW!

Love,

Jim

This past Sunday (Feb. 13th) at HIM in Fort Mill, Rick again encouraged the congregation to do what they could to have at least a 3 week up to 3 months supply of food on hand. In addition, and more urgently, we must have some idea on how to obtain drinkable water. Given the instability both nationally and internationally, Rick strongly believes that although we must not give in to a spirit of fear, it is wise and prudent to store food as an emergency back up.

We have also stressed this on a number of occasions and I again encourage each family to do whatever they feel is wise and out of their own obedience to the Lord.  Remember Noah, being divinely warned of things that had not yet occurred, prepared and built the ark.   As a result of Noah’s obedience, he and his household were saved.   I also agree that fear has no place among believers, however, like Noah, it takes far more faith to be prepared than to do nothing.

Stored food does not have to be wasted but can be easily used and replaced on an ongoing basis.  Regarding water, there are some simple solutions that we will be sharing with the congregation in the coming weeks.

On another note, we know it is easy to get out of the habit of attending church and we also don’t want attending our meetings to be just another religious tradition. However, there is a reason we are exhorted in Hebrews 10:25, when it states,“not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching.  ” In other words, in the times we are living we should be drawing closer together and we should become more connected because we need each other!  It was Noah and his ‘family’ who were saved.   Yes, we attend corporate meetings to worship and hear the Word and share what God has done for us, but it is also to be connected with family!  The Scriptures confirm that He sets the solitary in families.  That is a lot of what church is all about.  It is vital to be properly connected in the days that are to come.

These are incredible times to belong to the One who rules and reigns over all.   It’s not a time to fear, but to rise up in faith.  The greatest days to be a Christian living on the earth are in front of us.

If anyone needs some tips on how to begin storing food, please let us know.
