Caffeine Addiction Linked To Emotional Problems

Luke 17:28-30 “Likewise as it was also in the days of Lot: They ate, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they built” but on the day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven and destroyed them all. Even so will it be in the day when the Son of Man is revealed.

Millions of Americans drink excess amounts of coffee every day and many others drink energy drinks and energy shots.

Now, a study is showing that excessive use is creating addictions that lead to a dependence so strong it causes emotional problems.  The problem has become so prevalent that there is now an official diagnosis for it: caffeine use disorder.

“We have people who say caffeine is interfering with their life. They keep saying they’re going to stop, but they can’t,” American University professor Laura Juliano said. “I’ve seen people who have gone to great lengths to get caffeine when it was unavailable. I knew one woman who pretty much ruined her husband’s tropical vacation because she spent half the day looking for caffeine.”

Some studies are suggesting that up to 90 percent of Americans consume caffeine on a regular basis.

Juliano said that despite the widespread use of the drug, there is very little research into the depth of the addiction problem.  She speculated that because most people don’t see caffeine as a dangerous drug, it’s not a priority among researchers.

  1. I’ve worked graveyard shift then worked days and back to graveyard when switching jobs and working for different employers(past 13 years) I have my wife, 3 boys, 13,6,and 18mos.

I was unemployed for a year and really stressed out. The caffeine helped me pursue work and take care of my newborn son and would take care 24/7.

Since last September I’ve been working variable shifts 6am to 230pm , 2pm to 1030pm, and 10pm to 630am at the local hospital.

    I work in the lab.

This last week I had to work from 2pm to 1030pm then show up at 6am so I only got 4 hours of sleep.

At 530am I drink 1 scoop of beet juice mixed with carnation instant breakfast and drink it while I drive to work.

If I can get a break it will range between 9am to 11am I drink instant coffee brew with 1 bag of green tea to go along with the oatmeal I buy at the hospital cafe.

Without the two I’d think I’d be less alert, less sharp and more fatigued..

Yes some days I think I depend on caffeine too much especially when I cannot sleep in on my days off.

I think I’ll order more beet and try the kale juice to reduce the amount of coffee I need to function.
