WHO Finds Cause of Mystery Cambodian Illness

Rev 6:7,8  NCV  When the Lamb opened the fourth seal, I heard the voice of the fourth living creature say, "Come!" I looked, and there before me was a pale horse. Its rider was named death, and Hades was following close behind him. They were given power over a fourth of the earth to kill people by war, by starvation, by disease, and by the wild animals of the earth.

The World Health Organization has found the cause of a mysterious illness that has killed over 60 children who died within 48 hours of being hospitalized. WHO says the condition is caused by a combination of pathogens.

Enterovirus 71, streptococcus suis and dengue fever were part of the cocktail of diseases. The problem was compounded by doctors using steroids to treat the illness which suppressed the immune system.

Children’s hospitals in Cambodia have reported that no new cases have been diagnosed since last Saturday.

The rainy season in Cambodia creates problems yearly with dengue fever being spread by mosquitoes. A lack of indoor plumbing for most families creates a breeding ground for mosquitoes around most homes.

The CDC said the reason it impacted children is that adult immune systems are fully formed and can handle the combination of diseases.
