Coconut Oil Could Protect Against Alzheimer’s

A new wave of research is showing huge new benefits to coconut oil.

The oil, long known for its properties as a skin and hair moisturizer, is being shown to protect against proteins that contribute to Alzheimer’s disease.

The study on animals in laboratory settings is considered too preliminary to call coconut oil an official super food according to Dr. David Klufeld with the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

Dr. Glen Lawrence, professor of chemistry and biochemistry at Long Island University, says that coconut oil has many positive properties in the lab.  One study found that coconut oil’s fatty acids kill a wide range of viruses and bacteria.  Dr. Lawrence said it’s unknown if the same process will happen in the body.

Dr. Lawrence also says that coconut oil contains “medium-chain fatty acids” which are easier to digest because the body burns them quickly which some research suggests is good for athletes.

Dr. Bruce Fife, a Colorado naturopathic doctor, says that the tests have been conducted on refined coconut oil so there’s no evidence that virgin oil is better so people can use the oil based on their preferred taste.

Changes that can Save Your Life in 2014 (Pt. 2)

There is a lot of pressure in the responsibility for a Christian television show seen daily by millions. Occasionally, that pressure can be overwhelming, especially when you’re sick! Most people that saw the show in December and now in January had no idea that I was very sick when we filmed most of them. But, as they say in Hollywood, “the show must go on.” So, it did.

The only way I was able to continue to meet the demands of our taping schedule, was by giving my body everything it needed to help me through the sickness – and, of course, by the prayers of the saints. I added action to faith and the Lord saw me through it.

If it were not for all the nutritional products that God has brought into our lives and that we offer all of you, I would not have made it in December when I was so very sick – or any other time, for that matter. We ‘practice what we preach’ when it comes to the things we offer and you can be sure that I used every single thing I could to give me the strength I needed to get through the days. McDonald’s Website Tells Employees Not To Eat Fast Food

An internal McDonald’s website is telling employees the food they serve to customers is not healthy.

The London Daily Mail released screenshots of the McResource Line website that showed “unhealthy choice” beside a burger, fries and large soda while next to it “healthier choice” showed a deli sandwich, salad and water.

The website even tells employees that “avoiding items that are deep fried are your best bet.”  The burger, fries and soda were on the unhealthy list because “eating a diet high in fat puts people at risk for becoming overweight.”

The newspaper quotes the site telling employees to “eat at places that offer a variety of salads, soups and vegetables.”

The website is the same one that told McDonald’s employees to get a second job, apply for food stamps or sell their possessions to make ends meet in the current financial crisis.

A spokesperson told CNBC that media outlets were taking the website “completely out of context.”

Study Says Obese People Cannot Be Healthy

A new study shows that being obese increases the risk of death calling into question the idea that someone can be obese and still be considered “healthy.”

The study showed people who were obese but did not have a metabolic problem such as high blood pressure or cholesterol problems were still 24% more likely to experience heart problems over a 10-year time frame when compared to people of normal weight.

The researchers from Mount Sinai Hospital in Toronto declared “there is no ‘healthy’ pattern of obesity.”

Dr. Holly Wyatt of the University of Colorado said the findings are consistent with the idea that obesity itself is a disease. The American Medical Association first agreed with the idea earlier this year.

Critics accused the study researchers of misinterpreting their results.

Pediatricians Warn Spicy Snacks Could Harm Children

Pediatricians are warning that extremely spicy snacks, like Flamin’ Hot Cheetos and other chips, are sending numerous children to the emergency room every year.

The experts say that eating too many spicy products can cause a significant inflammation of the stomach lining which can lead to severe abdominal pain in children.

“We have a population who loves to eat the hot, spicy, not-real foods, and they come in [to the emergency room] with these real complaints,” Dr. Martha Rivera of White Memorial Medical Center in Los Angeles told KABC-TV.

One 12-year-old boy told KABC that he would eat 20 to 30 bags of spicy snacks a month until he suffered stomach pain and was diagnosed with gastritis. He said the feeling was like someone bruised his insides and that it hurt “a lot”.

Some school districts in New Mexico, California and Illinois have banned spicy snacks because of their lack of nutritional value. Doctors say parents should steer their children toward healthier snacks like string cheese, apples or pretzels.

The doctors warn the spicy snacks have addictive qualities that could lead to children overeating them.

FDA Announcing Plan To Ban Trans Fats

The Food and Drug Administration is announcing plans to force the phasing out of trans fats from the American diet.

The FDA will be requiring the food industry to phase out all trans fans, calling them a direct threat to public health. The FDA believes the elimination of trans fats will prevent 20,000 heart attacks a year and 7,000 deaths.

Health professionals have long cited trans fats as a detriment to good health. Some major cities such as New York have already banned their use.

The agency would not put a timetable on the requirement to remove all trans fats saying they wanted to work with various food markets to lessen the overall economic impact. The plan will take two months for public comment before any final action could be taken on the measure.

Trans fats are found mainly in processed foods like microwave popcorns, frozen pizzas and ready-to-use frostings.

The Garbage of the World or God’s Foods? You Choose!

Yesterday, our guests on the live show included three esteemed health and nutrition experts; Dr. Roy Curtin, Michelle Bacarella, and Frank Davis of Food for Health, International. We have had some lively and revealing discussions about what we eat, how our bodies react to what we eat, and how we can maximize the nutritional value of our foods with the right supplements.

In our discussions, we talked about the fact that this nation, in particular, has sacrificed our health on the altar of convenience. We are quite satisfied with the garbage produced by huge corporations as food because it tastes good and it’s fast.   We don’t need to take much time to think about or prepare this stuff.  Not many of us know the harm it’s doing to our bodies and the sad fact is that there isn’t many who care!
We would rather stick our heads in the sand and accept the outcome of sickness and eventual, often premature death, than learn what to eat and how to supplement our foods with healthy natural vitamins and other necessary nutrients. Why?
Proverbs 23:2 says, “And put a knife to thy throat, if thou be a man given to appetite.”
Okay, we know this is not meant literally, but it lets you know that dealing with your appetite is a very serious matter.

Ask yourself what’s more dangerous than putting a knife to your throat when it comes to your appetites?  What exactly happens when we continuously give in to what our appetites want?  What if we ate everything we wanted to eat, whenever we wanted to eat it?  Chances are, our weight would balloon to a point of morbid obesity and we would eventually develop weight-related illnesses, which could ultimately lead to an untimely death.

“Most studies show an increase in mortality rate associated with obesity as obese individuals have a 50% to an ultimate 100% increased risk of death from all causes. Even those moderately obese people have their life expectancy shortened by 2 to 5 years.” (Pesic, Milos. 2006 Tracking Obesity Statistics.)

The medications we take to treat these illnesses caused by improper nutrition often have serious and sometimes mortal side effects!  What sense does that make?  I don’t know about you, but I can’t live with this kind of nonsense!

Is fulfilling your appetite worth losing your life? I am trying to provoke you to take better care of yourself because I love you and want you to be well!

It’s sad, but many times people would rather feed on the garbage of the world than feast on the goodness of God’s foods.
That’s a prophetic picture of the world and the Church as well… but that’s another day.
Don’t miss even one of these informative shows with Frank Davis, Michelle Bacarella, and Dr. Roy Curtin.  It just may save your life!
Make your decision today to take better care of your health!
God loves you!  And so do I.
Love,
Jim

Wasted Years

One of the last times my father walked without assistance was when he walked me down the aisle.  He had developed diabetes because of his weight problem, and was now suffering complications from the disease.  Although he was in a lot of pain, Dad was determined to give me away. “Little Girl, this is the proudest moment of my life,” he told me.

In November 1999 Jim and I spent a week with Dad and Lita in Phoenix.  Jim had quizzed the doctor when we took my dad for an appointment that week.  The doctor had said that because of the complications from diabetes, they would likely have to amputate one of Dad’s legs within a year.  “But he’s a strong man,” the doctor said, “and he could live another five years, especially if he would take care of himself.”

On Monday afternoon Jim and I left Phoenix. We were getting in the car to drive to the airport when I turned around and went back in the house to hug Dad again. He held me to his chest and said, “Little Girl, don’t ever forget. Your daddy loves you.” Those were his last words to me.

The next morning Jim and Tammy Sue sat me down and broke the news that my dad had just passed away. Sue knelt down beside me and tenderly held my hand while Jim stood behind me and put his arms around me. They surrounded me with love in that difficult moment.

Peace filled my heart, and I felt that God was saying to me, your dad’s with me here now, and he is happy.

I had needed to know that my dad was in heaven.  God knew dad’s heart. And I believe my dad had finally come to understand the gift of God’s grace.

But he left this world many years before he needed to – because he could not control his eating.  He literally ate himself to death.  His refusal to take better care of himself deprived him and our entire family of many years together.

The wisdom of healthy living is beyond measurable.

Take care of yourself and do what you can to live out your appointed years.  Your family needs you and it is not God’s plan for you to waste the years He has appointed unto you.
